A bit of a link problem

hi all

at barnsley i repeatedly had problems with my link. the power just kept on going off. i have put it down to the link as when i moved it slightly it came on, but when it gets slammed in the arena the power goes off. i did find one of the connections a little loose, but the problem persisted. i am using anderson connectors, can excess solder casue a problem? or would it be something else?

I have upgraded to the 50A links from the little ones as it kept falling out.

try to soldeering the cables on to the contakts, can be a bad crimping. try to get the contakts fitted harder to the housings by raising the metall clip inside it.

Give the plug and socket wires a real good tug just to make sure that the joints are really solid... and as Matt said bend the internal contacts a little to make the plug and socket fit together tighter.

Excess solder on the outside of the pins that youve soldered the wires into can cause a misfit in the housing.... file off any lumps.

i have sorted, once taking all the armour off i could have a proper look, and found it to be a loose wire between two power distributors which i use

the wire is attached to each power distributor by screws, these seem to have shaken loose how should i stop this?

thread lock or watever its called cant remember now or just stick some super glue on it u can still undo it with a screw driver and elbow grease but it wont come out easily :P

what i thought of trying first was to remove the screw part and try to solder to the metal plate part, and if i put two wires for each then if one came off it wouldnt stop the robot

what do you think?

if this doesnt work ill look at the thread lock, thanks everyone

Alex, redundancy is fine, but if the method of attachment is suspect then its pointless, because both wires will have equal possibility of failing at the same point.
Better one properly made connection than 2 dodgy ones!
Chances are the metal part is electroplated and you will have a hell of a job soldering to it.
Stay with the screw and add some non-permanent thread lock. (you may need to undo it at some point!)

how do i use it?, do you tighten the screw first then add? or add then tighten????

Add then tighten. Leave to set.
