Danny, that would really be good for the robotic community in my honest opinion.![]()
I am also interested in what other people have to say about this, as it really has potential.![]()

I love the idea. but its gunna be hard getting sponsors to start with, a company wont want to dish out cash when theres hardly any viewers as it will not benefit them. so its going to cost abit befor it attracts sponsors. sponsors such as the ones on the sides of many bots would probably be interested but they might not want to pay cash they might want to give you free products or somthing. You could make it a joint production, many people could all chip in and do there bit but it could lead to arguments.
Make DVDs of the recordings too to bring in extra cash![]()

i think the only way for it to get popular is to hand out 1000s of flyers at events if the EOs want to get involved and allow people to do this, we would then need to rely on word of mouth
theres plenty of people in the community who have the skills to create quality videos (but we need cameras) and also need alot of spare time
great idea and could raise some cash for the FRA
and about the server to host on, videos will take alot of space but hard drives are dirt cheap now anyway but how much would bandwidth cost and how much do you think we would need
it could turn out good though
I believe that the sponsors that people have with their robots could be quite willing to fund some money towards the site, because youll have their logo on your robot and it has the chance to be viewed by million, so good advertising for them

Well, like any startup there is always a cost, Unfortunately in my case its thousands, mainly cameras and server / network hardware. But thats life. If it was that easy everybody would be doing it already.
As for getting sponsorship yes your right in what your saying, but it does depend on how far you go in organizing things in the first place to what you get. Ive already got sponsorship penciled in for programs that I havnt even finished planning never mind produced yet! The key is having meetings and gaining trust.

Well its not really the hard drive space thats the issue, thats the least of the worries really, but youd be surprised on hard drive cost. Hard drives may be cheap for your desktop but server grade drives certainly arent. For example http://www.morecomputers.co.uk/extra.asp?pn=375861%2DB21http://www.morecomputers.co.uk/extra...n=375861%2DB21
As for bandwidth, thats the hardest part to judge, its like asking how long is a piece of string. It depends on how many episodes of shows you have, how big they are, your audience size. The best way is start at something around 8mbit (couple TB a month) but always be ready to pay for more as you need it, You can go from nothing to a lot in an instant.
Danny
This thread gets more interesting by the day I do think there is mileage in the proposal being discussed at the moment.
Just a few points to help line up the pins so to speak!
Firstly what do the FRA people think of this?
Secondly what do the EO companies think?
Then the whole practical issue of cost and commercial viability comes into play.
From my point of view we are best starting with a small low cost but properly funded project, and then seeing if the formula works, these things can grow organically very quickly. So lets not run before we can walk.

we could just host them on you tube first to see if it works? and like show it on a website for us
i remember there being a thread about a team who was doing some filming. team lightning i think. mabee they would be interested in doing something?
Craig I would sign your petition. Having only just started out with this last year I would love the opportunity to appear on Robot Wars. It also encourages children to get interested in engineering. After my first attempt last year I am in the middle of a complete re-build and hope to be really active before too much longer!
2009 is the year.... im telling you![]()
If we survive after reading the happy new year message.... if any sponsor was to look at this forum they would be too horrified to get involved.
