Thread: How Could I Improve...

How is this for a potential house robot?

    Close to Paradise

Type - medium house robot, weighing about 250kg

Weapon - The main weapon is a Husqvarna k1250 cutter, with a 7.8hp petrol engine with a harden blade designed to cut though Hardox armour, the entire unit is mounted into an inner cage so that the vibrations caused by hitting stuff is transferred within the inner cage. The secondary weapon is the machine€™s speed and shear power.

Drive - 4 wheels which weigh 5kg each, with a layer of rubber on the outside, powered by 4 Lem 200s at 48 volts, with electronic traction control to make sure this house robot doesn€™t spin it€™s wheels when powering away.

Chassis and Armour - the chassis is made from steel, with some Hardox panelling on the side, the Hardox is connected by a number of bolts and locks so that it€™s unlikely it will be damaged. The rear end of the machine is weighed with lead and with lead placed at certain points on the chassis to give the robot a near perfect 50:50 weight distribution.

Speed - 26 mph+, who knows what will happen if we put full-power onto an empty runway what speed it will get up-to. It gets up-to speed rather quickly.

Shape - See picture, but it€™s a kinda box, with rear shunting plates and a curved top

    Srimech - Nope.

Ground Clearance - Enough for a crafty flipper to get in and flip the beast, zero at the front, and feeding robots into the saw blade of doom *cue evil laugh*

Anything else - Was going to be designed to be a normal 100kg machine, until I changed my mind, stuck on more weight and a bigger petrol engine for the saw.

    Dave...

    1) I know the Husqvarna brand of chainsaws, but what does the k1250 look like?
    2) Hardox thickness?
    3) Batteries?
    4) What picture?
    5) I actually think youd want a srimech

    Looks good otherwise

  4. Ben, can you gather all information on that particular robot and post them in one post? I am not going to check stats by flicking back and forth between messages, and those 3line messages are not making it easier to follow what you are on about.

Weaponry: 1) The outer shell spins and is powered by a Perm132, it has 8 2cm teeth on the body and 16 1cm teeth on the 360 wedge
    2) 2 Identical lifting arm protrude 120cm from a small Tazbot style turret the top of the robot and go down to the floor at right angles, they are powered by a 140X180MM pneumatic ram
Each is powered by dual 5KG Co2 bottles, it has 14 attachments:
    1) A Hardox Forklift Arm which is 15X5X3
    2) A Small Hardox Wedge which is 20X15X5

The Other 7 attatchments dont use the original arm they are connected to the turret and all arms are 120 cm long (without attatchments)
    A Tazbot Style Lifting Arm
    9) A Tazbot Style Lifting Arm with Panic Attack Style Forks at the bottm which are 35X20X1
    10) A Mortis Style Lifting Arm
    11) An Atomic Style Lifting Arm that narrows at the top and the wedge is 5X25X5

    Weaknesses Heavy, Quite slow

    There, Phew!

  7. A lot of tournaments will have limits on the number of setups you can use, generally around five.

Also, is there a purpose fo all these different arms - realistically are all of them necessary? Obviously its very tempting to use multiple setups but quite often youll probably never use 2/3 of them. Id personally try and take it down to one of the wedges and the scoop and one or two of the lifting arms and explain WHY you would use that weapon.

For example on Achilles I have the pnuematic setup and the hydraulic setup - the pnuemnatics is used for most things, but the hydraulics are used for facing rammers because it means I can get them off the floor to remove their traction, but hydraulics arent really suited to fighting anything else as much as the pnuematics are.

Theres no point havign weapon setups just because you can (something I learnt with Slammer) because if you have redundant setups and you arent winning then its just wasted.

  9. That answer is so wrong in so many ways Ben, you should really rethink that last statement.

Ben, precisely what situations are you planning for with all those attachments? Can you give me a list of why you need each one, an opponent (real or vapour) they would be good against, and why with that particular opponent you cant use any of the other similar arms?

I suggest you rethink the design completely, as it looks considerably overweight even with the walker weight bonus.
