Thread: How Could I Improve...

  1. #1421
I run those in my real life antweight.

    Anyone mind proof-reading this monstrosity?

    Robot Name: Supreme
Dimensions (LxWxH): 135cm x 130cm x 30 - 65cm (the main body is 30cm high, the fire when not in use reaches 65cm in the air).
Shape: A box wedge with angled sides and a cylindrical back (cylindrical like Sir Chromealot, not like Barberous).
Weight: ~100kg, give or take a few nuts or bolts.
    Drive: 2 x S28-400 MagMotors, running at 24v, powered by 4 x 24v NiCad batteries.
    Top Speed: Roughly 15mph.
Wheels: The robot has 2 custom made rubber wheels, with golf studs embedded in them for extra grip. The wheels look more like rolls than anything, being 12cm high, but 20cm wide, allowing us to have extra grip on the arena floor.
Armour: The robot€™s main armouring is the 6mm Titanium front and sides. The top of the robot is 8mm Polycarb and the baseplate is 4mm Titanium/Vanadium alloy. The rear of the robot is protected by the kinetic disc (see Weapons for more information). The front and sides also have Titanium extender plates, giving the robot virtually 0mm ground clearance. The side panels each have 5cm long Titanium edges, each being 4mm thick. The front has a longer 8cm piece of Titanium, with this being 7mm thick.
Weapon 1: Supreme€™s main weapon is a large 35cm long axe. The axe head is made from Aluminium alloy, with the axe pole being made from 3.2mm Hardox for extra strength. The axe is powered by a kinetic energy transfer from the second weapon. The axe head is modelled on Excalibur€™s axe from Series 3 of Robot Wars, and has 2 large Aluminium alloy spikes on each side in order to aid in self righting.
Weapon 2: At the back of the robot is a large 1m diameter spinning ring, made from 4mm Hardox. 75% of the spinning ring is hidden by the armouring of the robot, but the remaining 25% has been left exposed in order to act as a type of defence for Supreme, especially as the axe is an omni-directional offense weapon. The spinning ring houses all the motors, electronics and batteries, and weighs just over 25kg. The disc has 4 large 4mm Hardox teeth, each being 3 inches in length and 4 inches wide. The spinning ring is powered by a LEM130 Lynch Motor running at 36v, geared down 4:1. The motor can spin the ring at a top speed of 1350RPM. According to the Team Cosmos KE calculator, the weapon should hit with 68kJ of power. When transferred into the axe, it should have enough power to pierce Hardox with ease.
    Turning Circle: 0m
Ground Clearance: 0mm at front and sides and 15mm at back.

Thanks in advance! Any questions, post em here or bug me on MSN.

  3. ...you mean uni-directional, not omni-directional :P

  5. Neat idea. How will you retract the axe if you get stuck in the opponents armour?
