Thread: How Could I Improve...

  1. #1411

  2. Presenting a cluster of otherweights:

    Drive (SHW)
    WEIGHT: 145kgs
    DIMENSIONS: 125 x 120 x 9 cm
SHAPE: A very low box, with the sides sloped inwards towards the front so its more of a trapezium shape, with wedged sides and rear. At the front is a 4mm Hardox wedge, which is hinged so it flops over when inverted.
COLOUR: The top half is grey, and the bottom half black.
DRIVE 8 (yes, S28-400 Magmotors running from 12 NiMh packs at 36v, two motors driving each of four 100mm wheels with urethane rubber treads for grip. The wheels are situated at the back and middle of the robot, with castors at the front, which gives it much better maneuvrability.
    SPEED: 12mph average, 20mph max
GROUND CLEARANCE: 5mm, except the front which is 0
ARMOUR: 3.25mm Hardox on the top and bottom, with the remainder (front, sides, rear) being a continuous 10mm Ti welded plate, which acts as part of the chassis as well.
WEAPONS: The front has two hardened S7 tool steel spikes at either side of the wedge, these spikes angle slightly downwards to dig into other wedges, and are very sharp. No active weaponry - this is a pure pusher.
SRIMECH: Invertible. The sloped sides prevent it resting there.
NOTES: Very heavily shockproofed, with the top armour, motors, batteries and electronics shock mounted to reduce impacts. Has a pair of very bright white LED headlights at the front, just below the spikes.
STRENGTHS: Good armour, very good pushing power and maneuvrability
    WEAKNESSES: No active weaponry

    Picus (FW)
    WEIGHT: 13.6kgs
    DIMENSIONS: 40 x 40 x 18 cm
SHAPE: Like WYSIWYG from S1: A box with a shallow front wedge and a steep rear wedge, but external tracks partially covered (like the S1 Mortis)
COLOUR: Powder coated white, with name on front in unpainted silver
DRIVE: 2 Asroflight Cobalt 90s driving steel conveyor chain tracks (with urethane rubber bonded to every fourth tread for some grip) from four NiMh battery packs
    SPEED: 7mph
GROUND CLEARANCE: 0 at front, 0 at sides due to tracks, about 7mm at rear
ARMOUR: 4mm aluminium welded shell over a steel frame, the front wedge is reinforced with 3.2mm Hardox
    WEAPONS: None, primarily a pusher
SRIMECH: Invertible - two spikes stop it being stranded on its side
NOTES: Components are shockproofed to withstand things.
STRENGTHS: Lots of power and traction, tough armoured front
WEAKNESSES: Tracks vulnerable to very low spinners, ineffective when inverted

    Eye Of Ran (AW version)
WEIGHT: 150g ish (I can throw together a weight calc if you like)
    DIMENSIONS: 100 x 80 x 18 mm
SHAPE: A cuboid wider than it is long with a wedge at the back, extending from this cuboid is a long bar, at the end of which is the weapon motor (pic available if this is too difficult to understand, this seems to happen a lot with my designs)
COLOUR: Mostly fantasy artwork, generally blue and green with some gold. The blade is mostly unpainted with viridian tips.
DRIVE: 2 Sanyo 50:1 micro motors driven by a Sabertooth 2x5a controller, driving 2 rear semi-protected rubber tyred wheels, run at 11.1v off a 3 cell lithium polymer pack
    SPEED: Medium fast
GROUND CLEARANCE: Blade is about 1-2mm off the ground, all around the rest is quite high except the rear wedge which is 0
ARMOUR: Top plate is a single piece of 3mm polycarb, reinforced with struts of balsa wood to counter the forces of the weapon. The rear wedge is 1mm polycarb covered in spring steel to make it low to the ground, and everything else is either held in with screws or taped to the underside of the top.
WEAPONS: A 65 x 15 x 4 mm undercutting titanium blade, which weighs 30g and is driven by a brushless outrunner motor rated at 20000rpm, with the ends curved into hooks to catch and rip the opposition. The blade protects the front of the robot and the vast majority of the sides as well, and packs a punch of...well, it doesnt particuarly matter in antweights :P It is kept from hitting the ground by a tiny piece of polypropylene in the bottom of the motor.
SRIMECH: Invertible, the odd shape and weapon should prvent it resting on its sides (it doesnt really have any sides anyway)
NOTES: Uses Spektrum radio to prevent it jittering or going out of control.
STRENGTHS: Weaponry, good drive and pushing power
    WEAKNESSES: Newtonian physics

  4. I wouldnt exactly call it one of the most powerful axe.

I wouldnt put anymore than 2kg of CO2 in, that will give you plenty of hits and 4kg is really pushing it weightwise.

I know it is difficult, but we do need dimensions on the robot.

    Apart from that, good stats.

  6. The motors weigh 25g each, so 100g is gone on the motors alone. Add 32g for the battery, and its looking somewhat overweight :P

  8. Those would be fine.
