Thread: How Could I Improve...

  2. Fortal is a brand name. The aluminum alloy in question is either 2024, 5086, 6081 or 7075. They are indeed stronger than steel (7075-T6 even stronger than stainless of the same thickness) but its also more brittle.

It makes for good armour and chassis building but its not easy to weld when you are at an event.

Roight, Oi be noticin two main problems ere:

1: 10mm of armour is too heavy unless its something like HDPE - especially on robots with hydraulics, which are quite heavy. Go for at the most 7mm, or consider Hardox - its as heavy as steel, but 4mm should prtect you against most things for now.

2: You dont state what voltage the motors run at, which is imprtant if it comes down to pushing.

Other recommendations: you dont need a chainsaw engine to drive the hydraulics, you can get the same effect by using a Vivoil pump, for less weight. Also, tidy your stats up a bit - particuarly on Pain (which is a real robot from S2 by the way :P) youd be better off putting the info on the crusher in the weapons section rather than in notes. Dmensions would be good as well.

The Vivoil pump alone is not enough Joey, you still need a motor to turn it.

*realises he forgot that on every hydraulic robot he designed*

Would a LEM be good enough, or do you need specific ones?

  6. #1277
If a LEM is good enough for Kan-openers pump, its good enough for pretty much every robot.

Thanks for that, off to change all my pumps from running on fairy dust

  9. 7mm Hardox is even more overweight than 10mm ti...I wouldnt use more than 4 or 3.2mm thick on a hydraulic robot with 6WD (it doesnt get any thinner)

Also, why are you stating batteries and voltage for a hydraulic actuator? I know they need electrical power to work, but the batteries powering the actuator fall into the category of safe to assume its there, so doesnt need to be stated and they confuse what the weapon is a bit.
