I think I said earlier what makes it a walker - it depends on the writer, but you need independent forward/backward and sideways movement on each leg (basically two linear actuators per leg or similar will do it) to qualify under strict rules.

And two mini mechanisms would allow it to turn, but it still wouldnt be a walker - youd get more maneuvrability out of your original steering plate idea.

I think Woody was the one with a good schematic of how a proper walker could work. I just cant seem to find it anymore.
