Thread: How Could I Improve...

  1. #641

  2. ...what values are you putting in?

  3. #643
That shouldnt happen at all. In fact Ive never heard of that, as it should calculate the kJ just as you click on the button. :P

Try clearing your temporary internet files and start again.

  5. On the topic of help, I was looking at Blizzard earlier, and I got very bored, and I came up with this...thing...I think it might be good, but theres a little voice in my brain telling me it wont work or be impractical, so Id like people to check it out, and Alex to yell at me for stealing his idea

    Paramagnetic LOX Box
    WEIGHT: 100kgs
    DIMENSIONS: 95 x 95 x 35 cm
SHAPE: A hexagon with wedges on all sides, like Turtle Road Kill with two fewer sides.
COLOUR: Bright white, decorated with various warning triangles, symbols and signs in various flourescent colours.
DRIVE: 6 S28-150 Magmotors running from 6 NiMh battlepacks, each driving a machined aluminium sylinder with a urethane rubber screw thread on it, very similar to Alex Holts drive system on Blizzard. The screws are located inside the shell parallel to the armour plates, and using various combinations of rotation make the robot completely omnidirectional - only with a LOT more traction than if omniwheels were used. It can also spin in place to turn, but the design means it shouldnt need to that much.
    SPEED: 12mph max
GROUND CLEARANCE: 10mm, but all sides have hinged skirts making it 0.
ARMOUR: 4mm Hardox on all eight wedges, with the top being 10mm carbon fibre/polypropylene honeycomb material and the baseplate 5mm aluminium.
    WEAPONS: None as such
SRIMECH: A linear actuator driven bar in the top of the robot, that self rights it in about 2 seconds.
NOTES: Components inside are shock mounted for protection against things. Dont ask about the name.
STRENGTHS: HUGE traction, uniqueish, good pusher and omnidirectional - in fact, it works best without turning around.
WEAKNESSES: Lack of weaponry, so-so armour

    Bar 51 by 3 by 1 with a mass of 43.45 lbs has a MOI of 65.630625

    MOI 65.630625 ft lb/sec^2 Weight 43.45
    RPM *: 3000

Kinetic Energy: 3238736.1 or 136480.7 joules.

  8. With that sort of energy, some people will want you to explain how your robot can survive its own hits...usually that means putting down lots of shockproofing in the stats, but if youre Aaron Knight its usually more complex.

  9. #649
You will need a lot of shockproofing, but then we all have to.

Good news though, your robot should be within weight, assuming you used the combatparts 4mag gearbox with the S28-400s.
