Cutting down drill motors

hi all

at the moment the drill motors i use in psycho fling are 18volt and the wheels are on the outsides of the robot. this means the wheel and part of the shaft stick out. i was thinking if i cut the shaft down a little i could make the wheels closer to the robot body, enabling me to put some wheel covers on

my question is, is it ok to do this? it wont do any damage to the drill etc?

i realise i will ned to cut the reverse thread screw down

alex, not sure of your setup, but couldnt you machine the wheel hub down, and also cut down the reverse thread screw?

just thought cutting it down wont do anything, however making a thread on the rest of the shaft will

would this work? ie not break?

cant see a problem myself
