Thread: Spray painting metal armour

  1. #1
started on the paint job of psycho fling, going for blue and silver. i was planning to sparay all the pannels silver then masking tape off the areas i want to keep silver, then spray the rest blue. but i have found that masking tape pulls of the paint, and so defeats the point of painting it

does anyone have a different idea? anything that wont pull the paint away? (also tried insulation tape )

    thanks alex

Also, the paint is more likely to peel if:
    1. You havent keyed the surface (sandpaper/ wire brush)
    2. You spray when it is damp/ cold.
    3. You spray too thick, remember lots of thin coats are better than one thick coat.

Pulling the paint off happened numerous times when I was painting Kaizers wedge. Turns out I was just being too impatient and not letting the paint dry properly. If youve sprayed it in damp/cold conditions, its often better to leave it to dry overnight just to ensure it wont stick to the tape and pull off.

And after all the time spent painting it, it gets scratched to pieces in the arena and becomes a mess!
