In brief (extremely brief):
BBC wanted to do make-overs on every house and garden in the country by Series 6 and (ably assisted by Olympics, World Cup etc.) schedules slipped eventually disappearing altogether.
Series 7 bought by Five - no one knew when it was on, not even Five knew. With everyone confused rating plummeted. No further programmes were commissioned.
..without a TV channel to fund filming of the show, Robot Wars ceased to exist.
Now we have Roaming Robots and Robots Live as well as others running events through out the year which are more fun and better for the audience.
Sweet
Old series of robot wars are currently on digital tv channels (sky one and i think it may still be on Sci-Fi). Challenge TV is about to start showing it as well(series 3 &4 i think).

I wonder when a cable tv company will realise that all they need to do is bring camera crew to a robots live or roaming robots event and film it and people will watch it. There must be some kind of profit in that.
Then again most profit made by media is through merchandise.
Sadly
Unfortunately its not as simple as that due to the difference in lighting for stage and lighting for TV - then theres BECTU (Broadcasting Entertainment Cinematograph and Theatre Union) so you would have technicians running all over the place (how many BECTU members does it take to change a lightbulb?), and finally we would all need ECS cards to show them that we are competent with wiring up our own robots, plugging in a charger etc.
Its all stupid though, because robot wars was a very popular show at the time!
It still is obviously otherwise would Challenge waste their time and money with it?
