First Round

Lightweights

Ad Infinitum - Alex M and W
Anti-Virus - Kody Kunz

61-39% Ad Infinitum wins. Both of them specialize in lowness. Anti is faster, presumably

slightly lower, but against a robot with defense on all sides, that really doesnt matter

much. AI threatens a knockout to Anti-Virus, by flipping it on its side. Anti-Virus

doesnt appear to have any bars or spikes to cause it to fall over, so it would likely

just sit there. The bane of simple designs is that they get caught on things--walls,

hazards, other robots, and dont have any moving parts to get them off. While Anti-Virus

would probably push Ad Infinitum around for much of the match (and win for the percent of

the time that it completely avoids getting flipped), the moment one flip occurs, its at a

severe weakness at any orientation other than right-side up.

Another Night at the Bar - Martijn Benschop
Just a Little Baldur - Alex Holt

91-9% Baldur wins. Its a compact, well-armored design that would be difficult to

incapacitate. ANB devotes enough of its weapon energy to be able to damage the front and

ends of this opponent. Baldurs actuator would probably break, but ANB is too unstable to

effectively push Baldur, or have any offensive capactity if its weapon slows.

Middleweights

Scorpion Bite - Alex M and W
Solstice - Kody Kunz

57-43% Solstice wins. The weapon design is difficult for a weaker disc-spinner like SB to

disable. Its likely to lose its weapon first. It would win in almost half of the

matchups, because it has supurior wheelpower, and enough of a crumple zone on its front

to survive impacts. It would push Solstice around once it slowed the weapon sufficiently.

Solstice threatens more damage and a more likely knockout in a potential fight though,

giving it a slight edge.

Waiting for the Axe to Fall - Martijn Benschop
Sith - Alex Holt

51-49% Sith wins. Its pneumatic actuator would have little effect on the Axe, and would be

weaker than advertized, due to the position of the jack. Axe also threatens an unusually

strong drivetrain for a middleweight, making the pushing match very close. Siths primary

advantage comes from its front leverage, making any head to head collision favorable. It

would probably not take functional damage from the axe.

Heavyweights

IFHW - Alex M and W
Wedginator Reborn - Kody Kunz

82-18% IFHW wins. IFHW takes a lot of design aspects from Wedge of Doom, which is very

effective against Wheely Big Cheese-esque designs like WR. It has a strong front, which is

hard for WR to get around, and a leverage advantage on that front, along with better

acceleration and control. The minority of times WR manages to get around the front though,

its much more powerful flipper would give it the potential to juggle its

slower-to-self-right opponent, and possibly threaten a knockout.

Flick of the Wrist - Martijn Benschop
Black Panther Queen - Alex Holt

Wow, your heavyweight entries are very developed. They take a lot of successful aspects

from real competitors. This would be a very dynamic fight.

55-45% Black Panther Queen wins. Mostly due to better versatility. Flick would get the

leverage first more than half the time, but following through would be difficult. Black

Panther could continue attacking while being pushed from the front, and recover. I think

this would be close; neither threatening a knockout, but Black Panther somewhat more able

to control the fight, with its barrage of actuating weaponary.

Superheavyweights

Eurypterus - Alex M and W
Red Flag - Kody Kunz

64%-36% Red Flag wins. Heres an interesting fight. Eurypterus is low and sturdy, while

Red Flag is mostly focused on its weapon. Both robots have similar front leverage spikes,

which should present an interesting problem if theyre around the same height. Now

normally, I would be very critical of Red Flags lack of invertibility as a weakness, but

against a weaponless opponent in an arena without hazards or house robots, this would be

difficult to capitalize on. The Flywheel will further stabilize it. I think this is one of

those fights where the flywheel does most of the speaking; it probably cant incapacitate

Eurypterus, but the hinged leverage devices on Eurys front present ripe targets to rip

off. Theres no denying Eurypterus has an aggression advantage, but Red Flags offense

seems to be the best defense.

Sheer Heart Attack - Martijn Benschop
Red Knight - Alex Holt

51%-49% Sheer Heart Attack wins. I would have to see this one. This would be one of the

best fights in the round. Both robots are bizarre, and threaten a KO. At first glance, Red

Knights weapon seems to be impenetrable, but SHA is one of the few robots to bare just

the right tool to neutralize it.

SHA would come out ahead in any weapon-weapon contact, breaking the small flywheel (light

by Superheavyweight standards) and leveraging itself under the shield. With a stronger

drivetrain and sturdy weapon, it would push Red Knight around and deal possibly enough

damage for a knockout, to that central hull. The percentage is close though, because Red

Knight threatens a very early 1-hit knockout, if it manages to nick one of the exposed

tracks of SHA with the flywheel--tearing it off.

Well, lets look at the percents for this round! This tournament is too small for them to

matter, but in future tournaments, the highest percentage drivers will determine the

brackets.

Alex Holt - 61.5%
Alex M and W - 55.5%
Kody Kunz - 44.5%
Martijn Benschop - 38.5%

Thats just one round though. Im going to change the tournament rules a bit. Since I had

everyone fight one other person this round, I think Ill do a round-robin style, with

everyone fighting someone else the next round. Then Ill tally the robots with the most

points in each weight class, and the drivers with the most points.
