Hm...damn! Six to one?! Thats not fair! Even if four of them arent too powerful...
Try to get the Botles out of the picture fast as possible. OOTA, KO, it dosent matter. If I can get rid of one of them, do it. After that...slam Chameleon into Typhoon again and again, getting a few blows in with the axe as well before pitting it. Pretend Typhoon is a horribly bad smelling plant: Dont touch it AT ALL. Dont touch it by my onw will at least, Steve is almost certinitly going to shove me into Typhoon once or twice

Welcome to battle 5 of the Fowler Fic War Series 3.1 qualifying event, and today we see robots from everybody€™s favourite Scottish professor up against one machine from the forum€™s resident Yank

FROM OSWEGO, IN NEW YORK, ALL APOLOGIES!!!!!!!!

Sorry? All Apologies is Tony€™s latest machine and really does have nothing to be apologetic for, except for maybe when he kicks your robots shiny ass. A double Voltronic Wedge with a Battlerat style arm and a swinging axe arm on the top, All Apologies has got a potent line-up of ways to kill you. A quick 20mph top speed and 5mm Hardox all round give him a fair means of defence as well, but the speed does lead to a slight lack of control, while a certain Scottish band could leave him in trouble should they come out to play€¦ guitar Will All Apologies need forgiveness or be sorry for a poor performance?

    FROM SOMEWHERE, IN SCOTLAND, CHAMELEON!!!!!!!!

OMG! It€™s a colour-changing robot! Or not, but Steve€™s sleek and shiny shunting machine can at least change its weapons, with nine, yes nine setups that he can change and adapt his machine to contain as he sees fit. Today he€™s gonna be using setup 1, with a crusher and lifting scoop designed to grab onto evil flippers The motors give it 12BHp of shove, which isn€™t really that shoddy, and a very controllable 12mph is his top speed. But 4mm titanium could be marmalised by a decent weapon and the srimech isn€™t flawless should it be flicked over. Maybe the Chameleon will end up basking in the lights or maybe burying itself in the sand

FROM SOMEWHERE, IN SCOTLAND, THE BOTLES REUNITED!!!!!!!!

Currently ranked as the 54th best robot in this FFW, The Botles Reunited will be hoping to take their success from the recording studio and into the arena. John Geddon with his front hinged wedge and splinter arms, Paul McHurtney with his scoop and pneumatic spike, George Harassment with his spikes and alien style hammer and Ringo Scarr with his Tornado style drum will all be hoping that their weaponry will see them through to the next phase. However, being very light may make them easy to push and flip, and the 2mm aluminium armour?! The Botles may split again very soon

    FFW History
In FFW1 - Got drawn up against surprise packages Tonne Thunder 2 in round one, and never really looked as though they stood a chance, with Ringo destroyed before too long and the others falling apart by the end of the fight. It went to the judges, but both sides knew that it was only a formality as the Botles went back to Penny Lane

FROM SOMEWHERE, IN SCOTLAND, TYPHOON 2

Sounding somewhat like a certain brand of tea, and currently ranked number 47, Typhoon 2 is certainly not something you€™d serve with scones The UKRW7 champion, Typhoon 2 remains unchanged from its arse-whooping incarnation and is still the same robot that beat the likes of Storm 2 and X-Terminator on its way to lifting the crown. Essentially a full-body-spinning traffic cone with hammerhead like blades, this machine is also armoured in a fairly decent titanium shell. However the spinning does mean that it€™s a damn sight harder to control than most robots and if it€™s flipped then there€™s no coming back.

    FFW History

In FFW1 - Did Not Enter
In FFW2 - Was taken out in little under 30 seconds by Bigger Brother, Facelift 2004 and Speed Bump Mk. 2 when the latter slide underneath him, rammed him into the fence and chucked him straight out. They€™ll be hoping to do better this time around.

All Apologies straight away goes for The Botles Reunited as they split, but only manages to catch Ringo Scarr as John, George and Paul disappear across the arena. Typhoon 2 on the other hand chooses a more pensive approach and moves to the side of the arena to spin up. Chameleon makes a beeline for All Apologies but is far more subtle in his approach, merely circling the American entry as he tries to slide his lifter underneath the side of Ringo Scarr who is moving rapidly trying to escape All Apologies€™ advances. He fails however, as in the end he slides the arm underneath, driving him into the fence and raising the arm. Ringo goes flying and the flip is nearly high enough to take him over the fence, which has barely moved since the beginning of the fight.

Typhoon 2 by now has finished getting his traffic cone shape up to speed and moves slowly and tentatively towards All Apologies. Tony sees him coming though and immediately moves around behind Ringo Scarr to use him as protection, sliding the arm underneath once more so he can€™t escape. Typhoon 2 notices before assaulting his teammate though, and instead backs off, ready to make another attack should he be given the opportunity. The opportunity comes sooner than expect though, as All Apologies moves towards the fence to gain another shot. This time he gets enough height on the flip to have sent Ringo out, but not the direction as he flies to the side and lands upside-down by the fence.

Without his bodyguard in place, Typhoon 2 knows that he has a far better opportunity to attack All Apologies now and slides straight into the side of the American machine, sending him spinning across the room in a rather dazed trance. He tries to move away before he gets him again, but he can€™t get the traction and meets Typhoon 2 with the front of himself. The result is weapon meets weapon, as the hammerhead blades meet the side of the lifting blade, bending the main arm out of it and tearing it away from the blade itself.

On the other side of the arena, nothing much is happening, as the other three Botles and Chameleon just sit on the spot, doing nothing and waiting for an opportunity to attack something. Typhoon 2 on the other hand is having a whale of a time as he repeatedly smashes the bejeezus out of All Apologies, denting the side Hardox panels and mangling the flipper out of all recognizable proportion. All Apologies is not even being given the chance to move as he is eventually smashed into a wall and mangled even further by Typhoon 2, already demonstrating a huge amount of damage potential. When he finally backs off to allow his shell to get back up to speed and give All Apologies a fighting chance, All Apologies can€™t even move properly and begins to crawl in a circle around the fence. When he sees this, George Harassment flies in to be the first Botle to try and cause any damage and smacks the side with the Alien style, spinning hammer, which duly flips him over onto his back. He tries to fire the lifter to self-right but its broken out of all usage and just wobbles before Tony knows he€™s dead.

Knowing that the battle is now between three of his own robots Steve has some decisions to make€¦ The Botles are the weakest of the three but have been doing a good job. Typhoon is the most lethal but is also very prone to breakdowns, while Chameleon has been poor in this battle but is far more likely to be effective in a one-on-one battle. After thinking about it for a minute he knows that his best bet is to take out the Botles who are unlikely to survive a one on one encounter. Spinning Typhoon up to full speed he slides over to the already bashed-in Ringo Scarr and rips into the back end of him, tearing off the entire back panel in one shot. Another shot and one of the motors is out, and Ringo knows he€™s dead. Steve decides to have a bit of fun with the next one and decides to take on George Harassment front on with the shell meeting the spinning hammers. Flying in, the 2 spinners meet, with the result being that Typhoon 2 rips into the front, but at the same time is surprisingly sent flying onto his back by the counterforce and he lands on his back. George Harassment hasn€™t survived the attack though and is only able to move in circles. Therefore, even though Typhoon 2 is on his back, half of the clusterbot is out and so the whole robot is out.

    CEASE

Me - Not the longest of fights, but certainly one of the more entertaining. All Apologies turned in a sorry performance while The Botles Reunited? Take a bad robot and make it better Typhoon 2 and the very boring Chameleon go through.

  9. Welcome to the 6th, yes, 6th battle of the Fowler Fic War series 3 and today we€™ve got 2 realies, taking on 2 vapours in a battle to get into the last 128 to kick some ass.

From OSWEGO, IN NEW YORK, JUDO CHOP!!!!!!!!!

Anthony Politzi€™s latest machine in this series is slightly odd to me€¦it seems like a complete package, yet at the same time seems completely unremarkable at the same time. Essentially an improved version of Splinter from UKRW4 and 5, this machine has 2 horizontally swinging axes to act as pincers, and a plough front to allow them to get underneath as well. The skirts and invertibility means that flipping is both unlikely and ineffective, while the 8mm titanium armour should take a fair few knocks before it goes down. The weaknesses as I see them are limited manouvreability due to minimal ground clearance and high top speeds, and limited CO2 to the arms could leave the looking more tai-chi than judo later on in the fight.

From SOMEWHERE, IN ENGLAND, JACKSON WALLOP

Entered by Dan Stickler as one of his realies for the series Jackson Wallop is one of the most demented machines ever brought into the arena. A medium-sized cake tin with a disc mounted on top with 2 protruding blades, all with a tie-dye pattern to go on top of it, it looks more like a demented helicopter than anything else. When actually brought in contact with something high enough however, the disc CAN be very dangerous, and he€™s not the easiest machine to flip either. But once he€™s dead there€™s no coming back, and he€™ll be like a mere splat on a canvas

From SOMEWHERE ELSE, IN ENGLAND, MANTIS

One of the oddest-looking contraptions in the series, Dan Stickler€™s second realie in the same fight is a lifter-crusher hybrid, with a weird mesh of bars for armour, through which you can see all the vital organs. Also, unlike most crushers, Mantis isn€™t designed to do damage, it€™s designed to act as a clamp with the lift and the top piercer to allow them to drag their opponents around the arena and do unspeakable things to them. They€™re a big machine though, and this could make it hard for them to get manouvreability, particularly if they€™re already holding onto another machine. Should this be the case, it could be the Mantis that€™s left praying

From RICH€™S UNIVERSITY, IN ENGLAND, AGRO 3.5

Methinks Rich got a little bit confused when writing the stats for Agro 3.5 as even though he mentions a drum and a disc, there is no info on the drum whatsoever, and therefore for this tournament he merely has an X-terminator style disc at the back and a hinged wedge at the front for protection. The 4mm Hardox should certainly prove adequate cover against most attacks and the invertibility should prove to be kelpful against flippers. It has no real weaknesses, but at the same time no real strengths so it€™ll be interesting to see if Agro might get aggravated in the ring.

In possibly the most tentative start of the series so far, none of the machines immediately jump into the centre for the first impact, instead choosing to play games with the others. Jackson Wallop seems to the only one with an excuse for his tenacity as he moves slightly further away from the centre in order to spin his disc up, but with the other 3, it seems to resemble pure cowardice, that they€™re not making any direct onslaughts on one another.

When the machines finally decide to have a bit of backbone, it€™s Agro 3.5 and Mantis that make a move towards each other, and unsurprisingly, it€™s Agro 3.5 who comes out on top with a far superior ground clearance allowing him to slide straight under the side mesh plating on Mantis, under the wheel, and he proceeds to push him around the arena. Judo Chop decides he wants to join in with this battle, but is intercepted by Jackson Wallop who does indeed wallop the scoop with the disc. The damage is minimal with only a slight bit of tearing, but enough to intimidate Tony slightly who now seems to be looking far more cautious in his approach, darting off into no man€™s land.

On the other side of the arena, Rich is obviously hesitant with regards to what to do with Mantis. He can€™t keep holding onto him with the wedge for too long under the pinning rules, has no way of disposing of him while the pit€™s not open, can€™t flip him out as he has no flipper, and knows that the chances of being able to successfully reproduce the manouvre repeatedly until the pit descends is intensely unlikely. He therefore chooses to go for a very fast shunt across the arena into the opposite wall, in the vain hope that the blow may dislodge some part of the very internals of the beast. It does knock him off the wedge, and does certainly make him slightly unbalanced momentarily, but he€™s soon off across the arena and attempting to team up with his partner Jackson Wallop in disposing of Judo Chop. Tony€™s machine is looking hesitant having realised that he€™s not gonna find this fight as easy as he first thought, and he finds himself confronted with 2 realies not quite sure what to do.

On the other side of the arena, Agro 3.5 is choosing which side to take for this battle. He knows that getting rid of Judo Chop will improve his chances of getting through to round 1 of the main war, but at the same time knows that it€™ll be 2 on 1 against him if he does, as Jackson Wallop and Mantis are team-mates. Eventually he makes the decision to even out the playing field and swings his way around to by the side of Judo Chop, but this time facing backwards, bringing the X-Terminator style disc into play. Despite the realies team obviously trying to slow the battle down to bring it into their favour, Tony and Rich go back into taking a no-holds-barred approach and fling themselves at their respective targets, Agro 3.5 taking on Mantis again, and Judo Chop going after Jackson Wallop.

The result of this mini-exchange is one-all, as once again Judo Chop comes out the worst of his exchange seeing his front plough scoop once again bashed and bent by the spinning disc on the top of Jackson Wallop. Agro 3.5 however proves that his rear end is as useful as his front, and uses the rear X-Terminator style disc to throw Mantis onto his back in a shower of sparks. Unaware of where Mantis can self-right or not, Agro 3.5 backs off to see what happens, but after a few very unconvincing flails of the lifter crusher combination, he eventually manages to wobble his way back over and resumes his onslaught against the vapours.

Judo Chop has decided to go for a new tactic to sort out his vendetta with Jackson Pollock and decides to turn around in similar fashion and go in using the rear wedge. The result is more successful than anything else he€™d tried, as it manages to unbalance Jackson Wallop, but the gyroscopic forces merely throw him off the wedge, with neither robot doing any damage to themselves, and just leaving Jackson Wallop slightly confused.

All of a sudden both the realies are looking slightly more pensive and it seems to be the vapours that are on top as they circle their prey in a very predatory fashion. They also catch them unawares by swapping their targets, so as Agro 3.5 launches after Jackson Wallop, Judo Chop charges around the back of Rich€™s machine and fires straight into the side of Mantis, getting the bucket under the wheel and slamming shut with the arms. It€™s here we see the power of the arms as one hits directly on one of the parts of the metal frame and bends it inwards under the impact. Toying with his new insect prey, Judo Chop and Tony decide that they don€™t have the best grip on Mantis and let go for a split second, before re-adjusting and coming in for another shot, this time getting a far better grip on the side of Mantis, and preventing him from breaking free.

2 and a quarter minutes into the fight and still we have no idea who€™s on top in this fight, and this continues, as we switch over to the other battle in progress. Agro 3.5 had decided to launch a similar initiative on Jackson Wallop as he did on Mantis, and so charges straight at him with the back end, thinking that he may be able to fit underneath the disc itself. This fails however, and merely ends up in the 2 discs, one horizontal and one vertical, meeting one another with a huge crash. The result is odd, as the imbalance sends Jackson Wallop into the wall and Agro 3.5 into some form of deranged wheelie, nearly going onto his back.

Judo Chop on the other hand is having great fun trying to dispose of Mantis with the arms and ends up just circling the pit, occasionally releasing the Mantis form his grasp in order not to break the pinning rules, but otherwise just dragging him around the arena and doing what the hell he likes with him. He starts shunting him repeatedly into the wall, hoping to bend the framework on the opposite side or dislodge the wiring or something along those lines. Mantis seems to be looking slightly battered and beaten in the armour and frame itself, but when given a chance to move, seems to have as much mobility as he did at the beginning of the fight.

Agro 3.5 is still trying to recover form his mini-wheelie that sent him completely off balance, and is trying to fight off a now very determined Jackson Wallop who is going at the side of the back like a robot possessed, repeatedly hitting it, first of all only causing sparks, but as he is more persistent in his attacks, begins tearing into the titanium shell of Agro 3.5. Rich has no response and soon finds himself being overpowered by the series 7 realie, while the pit descends in the background. This makes things a lot easier for Judo Chop, who catches the helpless Mantis one more, dragging him towards the pit and dumping him down it before it€™s even finished dropping.

He€™s just about to come back and help his teammate Rich, when he sees committed possibly the biggest display of treachery in 3 series of FFW as, having been helping his ally the entire fight, Agro 3.5, who knows he€™s in trouble with Jackson Wallop, charges backwards at him with the disc, flipping him over, and sending him in an almost instant bed with Mantis who he€™d put down there moments before.

    CEASE

Me - Well Mantis never had a prayer out there, and Judo Chop had more of a stab in the back. Agro 3.5 and Jackson Wallop go through to round 1!
