Hi, I have started to put together a very basic feather. However being an ant builder i have a pneumatic a spinner a pusher and a lifter ant. Is there any cheap way to build any of these into a feather? And what other options are there?
Cheap = Pusher or Lifter
Daring = Low cost Pneumatic

id say a spinner is fairly easy, but then again thats me!
Ah, yes Gary, I know a spinner can seem an easy option but you of all people should know to build a really good one is a bit of a black art...and be warned Andrew..There are a couple of very experienced practitioners of the black arts who inhabit feather world!! :wink:
But seriously for a moment Andrew, you have many options depending on budget. The best advice I can give is what ever you build, keep it simple, dont out engineer yourself! and build it as strong as possible. If you can, get yourself along to a couple of live events and see whats out there..and dont be afraid to ask questions!

I dont really think Andrews going to be going for a scorpion jnr sort of spinner geoff lol. for the kind of thing hes talking about i would say a basic spiner would be the simplest, but a lifter would be a nice little challenge. With making a lifter theres a few more aspects to think about than basic spinners, such as can it selfright and does it have enough power to get the movement thats need to get the robot over, with enough power. And also is the time it take to lift enough? or too slow to be effective. It can be quite a learning experience building a lifter that is effective.
How do you produce a lifter easily, as the only thing i can think of is a linear acctuator. WHich i could make but would not be all that easy.
A simple to make linac. Carjack and a wipermotor. Combine these 2 and you can lift Killalot.
But it weighs alot- If you want a simple lifter you could use a motor and gear assembly straight from a car door window lifing mechanism, I think G2 used that idea and it worked nicely, Also you can prob pick up the whole mechanism for £5

enough torque to be used for a feather lifter ;-)
