Ground Clearence

I think i may have a problem , My robot currently has only 2mm ground clearence .
is this too little ?
What would be a good ground clearence for a rambot ?

it depends really. that is probably a reasonable amount. but your best bet is to go to an event, or run it in a n arena and see how it gets on. In some arenas that will be fine, but in others(especially after heavyweights have been running) it may get stuck. If you have much morer than that, then flippers will be able to get underyou easily, so its a bit of a gamble really. I say leave it at thatfor the time being, and then try it out and see how it goes.

for a rammer, at the front you ideally want as little as possible but it may be preferable to have a little more (perhaps 5mm) around the sides etc so that if the arena floor is slightly off then its not too bad.

yer, 2mm is a little too low around the sides, but front should be ok

I had 4mm ground clearance at one point on a featherweight and it always got grounded in certain arenas were heavyweights had been bashing around. I wouldnt go for less then 5mm if you can help it.

G3 had a 3mm ground clearence, and in 2004 it lost soo many fights due to getting stuck on the arena. Aslong as your front is aslow as you can get it, you should be ok, but keep the rest high.

Another factor that will determine if youll ground out is how many wheels you have and where they are located.

The further out your wheels the less likely to ground out.

For example a robot with four wheels one at each corner and on the outside of the body is unlikely to get stuck (it may lift one or two wheels off the ground but it shouldnt get stuck). But of course the wheels would get chopped to shreds

A two wheel drive bot with its wheels well inboard is very likely to ground out.

That said 2mm does sound rather low. Probaly best to increase it around the sides and the back.

or just put an extra layer of rubber around the wheels

My robot has 4wd and has the wheels set apart freom each other so i think im ok
@ Gary that is what i have been thinking i can get some vulkolan to but around the wheels if needed

if it was the old RR arena, you would get stuck alot, but the new one sounds like its got alot better (never used it myself) the XFM and Robo-challenge arena floors it would be fine on. Just make sure its atleast 5mm on the sides and back
