Thread: The Fowler Fic War Series 3

  1. #111
Welcome to the Heat final of Heat 1 of the Fowler Fic War Series 3 and today we see our 2 heat finalists, Leprosy Infection and Scottishly Fictional battling it out to see who can become our first semi-finalist of the new war.
Leprosy Infection got here in superb fashion. After having one of the best runs in the gauntlet, he outlasted most in the gauntlet, before knocking out the Number 12 seeds John WOSS in the last round on a one-sided judges€™ decision.
Scottishly Fictional struggled through the gauntlet, but cm up with a much better run in the sumo, before in the last round, knocking Chameleon out very quickly with the aid of the arena.
Let€™s head over to The Butcher€™s for what promises to be an excellent battle.

It€™s Scottishly Fictional who comes out of the blocks first, but it€™s Leprosy Infection who comes out faster as both machines tear around the large Butcher€™s Poles, to meet. The 3 robots are very similar, each invertible with drum weapons, but it€™s Scottishly Fictional who has more power, and it shows, as he shunts him straight back into the wall, tearing at the underbelly with the weapon. The 7mm titanium stands up to it pretty well though, and Chris escapes with little more than a few scratches. The slam into the wall has also helped him, as he falls of the concave wedge of Scottishly Fictional, and is able to run off again. This allows him to get his own 10kg drum into play, and he charges at the side of Scottishly Fictional. Now normally, sloped sides would protect machines from attacks by vertical spinning weapons, but not today as Chris slams into it, flipping Scottishly Fictional up into the air, before rocking back down. Unfortunately for Scott, where he has landed is on top of the drum, and on top of the body of Leprosy Infection, and this gives him the perfect opportunity to shunt him around the arena for a while and tear at the underbelly. Leprosy decides it may be time to use the House Robots for the first battle in this series, and so has a choice between Smack the Flipper, and the new and very scary looking Evil Disemboweller. Naturally, because it€™s his first experience, he should take him over to The Evil Disemboweller, but Chris decides to play that card later, and so takes him over to Smack the Flipper instead. Smack has undergone a bit of a change this series, so he now has a vastly more powerful axe and a lot less powerful flipper. He believes that the flipper will now only flip around 200kg as opposed to the previous 350kg. He decides that the axe should be the first of his new weapons to have a play, and so he slams onto the top of Scottishly Fictional. The 12mm titanium easily stands up to it though, and he takes little more than a dent on the top. At this point, Smack the Flipper decides to try and bring his flipper into play and so reverses round, to allow it to cause carnage. Leprosy Infection at this point, has stopped the drum and is perfectly happy just to sit back and watch his foe be destroyed by other means available to him, which in this case, is Smack the Flipper. He slides his flipper underneath him, and as the men in the control booths hit the flip button, Scottishly Fictional flies into the air and lands on his back. This gives Scotty a distinct disadvantage, as he drives away, knowing he can no longer bring his drum or his wedge into the action until he is overturned once more. Leprosy Infection knows this, and runs it to the upturned front of Scottishly Fictional, proceeding to try and bend the 12mm titanium with the drum. It fails though, as it doesn€™t have the power behind it to shred, and all it does, is very nearly flip Scottishly Fictional back the right way up. Scott knows he can still use his rear to his advantage though, and runs away, before turning back into him and slamming into the side panel, sending Leprosy Infection jumping backwards. Chris doesn€™t like this one little bit, and so traverses around to try and get another slam in himself, only for Scott to slam into him again, sending him jumping backwards once again. This time however it sets Chris up nicely for another attack, and so he charges in at the flat back panel once again. Again, the 12mm titanium stands up to the attack, however it does again flip him up, only this time he falls back to the floor before Chris can get underneath him. At this point Scott has a good idea though, as before Chris can react, he flies straight back into the slowed down drum. This catches Chris off guard and allows Scott to slam him into the fence, and prop him up against it. He can€™t stay there for long though, and so falls back to the ground, but it makes his intentions very clear, that even though he€™s upside down, he€™s not yet out of this fight. Chris likes to think he€™s still on top though, and so as Leprosy Infection falls back to the ground, speeds off in a cloud of wheel smoke, back after Scottishly Fictional. This is where another of Scott€™s bright ideas comes into play though, as he turns around as Chris comes towards him to bring his front into play for the first time in a while. The move has the desired affect as well. Chris cannot slow down in time, and so hits him underneath the wedge with the drum, flipping him back the right way up, albeit tearing a tiny bit out of the bottom of the wedge. Scott knows that he can now use his own weapon to good effect again, but Chris isn€™t about to make it easy for him as he flies to the side, slamming into it with the drum and knocking Scottishly Fictional sideways. Scott doesn€™t like this and so tries to get underneath the side of Leprosy Infection with his drum and wedge. This however, doesn€™t account for Chris€™s driving, and he manages to slide away before Scott can get to him for the first go. The second time, Scott manages to catch him on the very back corner, and he tires to use this to his advantage, but Chris just falls off. Chris knows that he has the advantage in angle as well now and slams into the side of Scottishly Fictional, lifting him off the ground again. Scott isn€™t about to let him get away with this though, and this time times his charge to perfection sliding the wedge underneath and landing him on top of the drum. Scott knows that he can try and regain the advantage in this fight now, and so slams him underneath The Butcher€™s Poles. Chris and Leprosy Infection try to escape, but get caught up in the maze of falling poles. As they try to escape, they get directly caught underneath one of them, which slams down on the 7mm titanium, bending it down on itself and doing by far the most amount of damage yet in this fight. This time they manage to escape though and are searching for vengeance, but they can€™t see Scottishly Fictional who is hiding around the other side of The Butcher€™s Poles. Leprosy Infection flies around to try and catch him, but by the time they reach where he thought Scottishly Fictional was, he€™s vanished. He€™s about to back off, when from around the side Scottishly Fictional flies in at him, slamming into the side with the wedge for what proves to be the final time in the fight as the klaxon sounds.

Me- What a fantastic fight, and definitely worthy of a heat final. Both robots and their roboteers exhausted, but we have to wait for a judges€™ decision, to see which of them will be going though to the series semi-finals.

Welcome to the Fowler Fic War Series 3, and today we see the start of Heat 2, which is our first Series 7 style heat of the series.

First into the arena is Killobite Recharged. Kody Kunz€™ machine is armed with almost every weapon under the sun. The main one however is a large 2 tonne hydraulic crusher, capable of grappling armours with ease. Combine this with the side spikes designed to keep out all attacks from the side, and the nasty grappling forklift, designed to keep machines on the wedge while they grapple them. Unfortunately for them, weak-ish armour in the form of 6mm Aluminium/Vanadium alloy and a sluggish top speed of just 10 mph, could Killobite be left out of batteries and with no memory?

    FFW History

In FFW1- Got knocked out in round 1 by Pure Platinum Evil after being flipped by what proved to be the lowest wedge
    In FFW2- Did Not Enter

Next into the arena is Stratos-Fear. Scott Anderson€™s second machine of the series will be hoping to avenge the defeat of him beautiful Scottishly Fictional in the last heat, and boy does he have the weapon to do it. A pneumatic 130cm flipper, powered by gas rams making it more powerful than Wheely Big Cheese on steroids. The drive makes it have a fair bit of shunt, but will the thinnish armour leave it fearing the Stratos?

    FFW History

    In FFW2- Did Not Enter

The second to last robot to make his entrance is Chris Mason€™s second machine of the tournament, DieCeratops Invertus. Hoping to follow in the footsteps of his victorious brother from the last series, DieCeratops Invertus is armed with an invertible lifting device mounted on an invertible chassis, meaning that anyone attempting to get the better of him with a flipper will have a bloody tough job to do so. The 8mm titanium will give it pretty strong protection as well, but will the lack of manouvreability and uni-directional weapon send this dinosaur into extinction?

    In FFW2- Did Not Enter

The last machine to enter the arena, and seeded number 20 and the seed for this match is King 25, entered by Martyn Forsyth. This is one of the weirdest machines in FFW 3 with a bizarre invertible cage contraption, capable of doing a tremendous amount of damage both ways up. The invertibility also makes it a lot easier to deflect attacks from flippers. However, if anything gets to the armour, 3mm aluminium won€™t take much of a shunt and if the weapon isn€™t spinning, then it€™s easy to push. Could King 25 be forced into abdication?

    FFW History

In FFW1- Lost in the first round to an inspired performance by Behemoth, who grappled and flipped him out of the arena
In FFW2- Got knocked out 6th in his 5-minute massacre heat having disposed of a couple of the machines himself.

The robots have been introduced, so let€™s head over to The Plinth to see which of these machines can make it through to round 2

Immediately, the masses start swarming into one another, and it€™s Stratos-Fear who seems to make the earliest impression, sliding over towards King 25 and flipping him right up into the air, before he lands, inverted on the arena floor. The other 2 robots on the other hand seem to be forming a battle of their own, with DieCeratops Invertus chasing Killobite Recharged around the arena. In the end though, it€™s actually Killobite Recharged who gets the better of the encounter, accidentally getting DieCeratops Invertus stuck on his wedge before taking him over towards King 25 who is attempting to spin up on the other side of the arena. Stratos-Fear isn€™t about to let that happen though, and so flips underneath the cage. Although it has the result of flipping Martyn€™s creation over, and also has the desirable effect of stopping the weapon, it also damages Scott€™s flipper, bending it slightly upwards at the end, meaning that it no longer rests properly on the rest of the body. This doesn€™t seem to bother Scott too much, who just charges straight at him again, flinging him up in the air with the flipper again, and as yet, there seems to be no sign of the damage being permanent. He also now seems to have decided that enough is enough with regard to the seed and shunts him towards the edge on the wedge. He gets close to the edge, before backing off slightly, firing the flipper, and sending the number 20 seeds spiraling into the air, and over the edge onto the tyres. On the other side of the arena, the battle between DieCeratops Invertus and Killobite Recharged is continuing, and having had to let him go under the pinning rule, it€™s Killobite Recharged who is looking panicked as Chris€™s machine starts waltzing around him, trying to get at a corner with the flipper. Scott decides he wants Plinth victim number 3 of the series however, and gets far more involved, flying in at the front of Killobite Recharged, only to get stuck on the wedge, and be grappled by the crushing arm of Kody€™s machine. Chris isn€™t about to let his comrade Scott get killed that easily though, and so flies in underneath Stratos-Fear. This seems a rather bizarre move to both Scott and Kody, but Chris has his reasons, shunting them both over with the flipping arm and leaving them resting on their sides. Killobite Recharged has to let go however to bring the srimech into play. This means that that second he lets go, Chris shunts Kody€™s creation towards the edge, before dropping him off it and out of the competition.

    CEASE

Me- King 25 doesn€™t reign supreme, whilst Killobite Recharged needs to erase its memory. DieCeratops Invertus and Stratos-Fear go through to the next round.

Next is the 2nd round melee and today we see 4 more robots into the arena.

Or at least, it€™s meant to be 4, but Mr. Roper has dropped out and with it, so has Pistola, so for this 1st round battle, we€™re down to 3.

First into the arena now is The Matador. Armed with an absolutely enormous rear-mounted pneumatic flipper, capable of tossing almost anything in this arena straight back out of it, no one€™s going to find it too easy to get away without a quick fly. The hard titanium armour should stand up to a fair battering as well, but if you look at it, those side wheels are exposed and anything with a vaguely powerful spinner should rip it off without too much of a problem. Will the Matador be seeing red himself?

Following him in is AJ€™s creation GigaByte. This robot is essentially an improved clone of Tough as Nails, but if you€™re going to clone a robot; why not clone one of the best? The jaws are powerful with 3 and a half tonnes of crush between the tips, enough to grip anything and in most cases, rip shred from shred. It also uses Storm 2 drive, meaning that it€™s no slouch at pushing. However, the claws have limited gas, the wheels are exposed to axes, and he has a high ground clearance. I really don€™t think he€™s tough as nails.

Last into the arena for this 3-way melee, is the number 22 seeds Razer. The Series 5 champion, world champion and several other honours along the way, is about to launch his 3rd assault on the FFW title. The crushing arm is made of steel and titanium, as is the armour, and this makes it resistant to most attacks, and capable of causing even more. The crusher is definitely it€™s main feature, but a breakable, slow, self-righting mechanism, and an exposed rear end means that Razer may end up on fire!

    FFW History

In FFW1- Beat Destructophobic in round 1, sticking the crusher into the tyre before ripping it off for a simple win. Caused an upset against NSBFR in round 2, sticking the crusher into the top and pitting them quickly. They lost in the heat final however, as with just 20 seconds of the fight left, Killotine got a lucky hit, and the ex-champ stopped dead.
In FFW2- As the number 11 seeds, lost in round 1 as they were flipped and battered by NSBFR and The Deer, who broke the srimech arms and shredded the wheels. Nice!

Let€™s head over to the Classic arena for this battle.

All 3 robots get out of the blocks, and straight away it seems to be GigaByte who wants to get into the action first, charging after Razer. Razer isn€™t about to let him get an easy attack in though, and keeps the front facing him as much as possible, thanks to the supreme manouvreability. The Matador decides to help out his old chum from the Battlebots years and so charges underneath the high rear end of GigaByte, firing the flipper and throwing him through the air and across the arena. He€™s invertible though, so it doesn€™t bother him too much, as he just flies straight back in at the Team Inertia Labs creation. It€™s The Matador who gets the better of him again though, throwing him A over T as he comes back towards him. This time Razer decides to try and get in on the action as well, and he crushes down on the wheels in the claws. The crusher jams in, and he now can€™t move the wheels on one side until the crusher is released and Razer shows no sings of doing that. This does however mean though, that The Matador can€™t attack without taking out his comrade as well, so instead, with Razer€™s permission, shunts him towards the fence. Razer lets go as The Matador slides underneath GigaByte. The flipper is fired, the robot is launched, the robot is landed, and the robot is out of the arena and out of the fight.

    CEASE

Me- A short fight. GigaByte Bytes the dust. Razer and The Matador go through for the realies, through to round 2.
