Thread: Wiper motor lifter

  2. An extra gearbox would certainly be required, and with the stress the gearbox will go through, all metal gears will be needed. The rpm of a wiper motor, although very low, is still far too fast for an electric lifter/flipper. You should be aiming for about 20-40rpm Output after the second gearbox. This would make the arm travel about 120 degrees in about a second.

    Windscreen wiper motors vary in speed and torque though, so i cannot say any more.

    Id say if you just used a basic push-pull linkage, youd probably get away with it. Just use the same mechanism the wiper already has fitted but alter the pivots to get less travel and more force.

    The simplest way would probably be to use a threaded rod, like the Australian robot Blade. Windscreen wipers are still far too weak though, so a cordless drills might be a good investment.

  6. The entire mech should be fine for lifting a feather, but the motor by itself will probably not be powerful enough, and it would be far too fast for an electric lifter

    nope, we used window mechs in Flybot and Gladiator at RWE2. They used the standard motors, we ran them at 24v. They move through about 90 degrees and have more then enough power (ive got a pic of mine lifter on of our armchairs in the living room!). My arm was about 50cm long and could easily lift 12Kg at tip.

    You used the entire mech or just the motor?
