Thread: Velociraptor's Fanfic Tournament - Series 6!

    Ladies and gents, the Doomsday Project is now complete! In a few moments, Andy J will post the stats (many thanks!), but first a little challenge for you:

    The proper inspiration behind The Doomsday Project is not from an RW or BB source, but something more unusual. Whoever can discover the true origin of Doomsday will receive 300 of my Virtual Pounds and 2 million Brownie points. The stats will give away a clue or two to aid your quest :wink:

    So here you all go...and HUGE thanks to Scott Anderson for helping with construction

    NAME- The Doomsday Project (HW)
    SHAPE- tall scooped front with a front Bigger Brother-style spatula, sloped sides and a steep wedged rear. Basically, think along the lines of La Machine or Tsunami with fixed skirts and youve got the jist of it
    COLOUR- deep black with a gleaming red eye on either side of the main weapon
    WEIGHT- 95.9kg. Weight check below
    DIMENSIONS- about 95cm X 75cm X 40cm
    SPEED- 15mph
    TURNING CIRCLE- 0m
    GROUND CLEARANCE- virtually 0mm at the front (due to the scoop and blade) and at the sides and rear (due to side skirts, 10mm underneath)
    ARMOUR- 4mm monocoque Hardox all over, including the skirts
    WHEELS- inside robot, 4 x custom aluminium wheels
    POWER- uses 2 x LEM-130s running on 24v for the main drive motors and 4 x 36v Battlepacks for batteries
    WEAPONS- The fun part. The key feature of the Doomsday Project is a large vertical disc sticking out of the scoop with holes drilled in to keep the weight down. Weighing about 20.4kg and composed of 4mm Hardox, the 50cm diameter flywheel has 2 teeth and is powered by a 48v Etek motor. It can reach top speeds of 3000rpm in approximately 4 seconds...and can produce round about 149kj. Ouch. Past cool, eh?
    SRIMECH- Down the rear wedge and stretching a little bit onto the top of the bot is a Cassius-style CO2 arm. Powered by 2 x 2.2kg CO2 fire extinguisher tanks, the 145psi buffer tank (1.1kg) can last for around 30-35 flips, which should be more than enough for self-righting in your average fight. If things get really bad as well, the arm can be used to flip robots attacking from the rear, before swinging around and bringing the disc into play. The sloped sides also prevent the bot being beached.
    NOTES- flies the Scotland flag. Also, written in red on the underbelly is Today, Knothole. Tomorrow, the world!
    STRENGTHS- VERY powerful weapon thats damned hard to damage, tough construction, good traction, fast & effective srimech, tricky to get under, pretty good control
    WEAKNESSES- so-so manoueverability

    WEIGHT CHECK:
    DISC:
    Total Weight = 30.9kg
    Total Weight with holes = around 20.4kg
    Weight of Etek = around 10kg
    TOTAL WEAPON WEIGHT = 30.4kg
    -------------------------------------------------
    MOTION:
    Wheels = 1.5kg each, 6kg overall
    Motors = 3kg each, 6kg overall
    Batteries = 2.85kg each, 11.4kg overall
    TOTAL MOTION WEIGHT = 23.4kg
    -------------------------------------------------
    ARMOUR:
    TOTAL ARMOUR WEIGHT = around 37kg including side skirts
    -------------------------------------------------
    SRIMECH:
    Canisters = 4kg
    Ram = 1.1kg
    TOTAL SRIMECH WEIGHT = 5.1kg

    FINAL WEIGHT: 30.4kg (weapon) + 23.4kg (wheels & motors) + 37kg (armour) + 5.1kg (srimech)
    = 95.9kg

    FYI, Richie, the only link between Doomsday and La Machine is the similar shape and as for Football, stick in RotRotB to replace Chameleon

    And as for the Doomsday Inspiration guesses...way off!

    Hot dog! We have a weiner! Scotty wins 300 virtual pounds from my account and all those lurverly Brownie points

    To be more precise, the concept of Doomsday came from the Sonic toon they made back in 93/94. During this summer, I was channel surfin, trying to find the video for Michael by Franz Ferdinand , when I stumble upon the toon again nearly 10 years since its last broadcast. Id forgotten how much it rocked

    As for the clues:
    - The Doomsday Project - comes from the last show
    Today, Knothole. Tomorrow, the world! - reference to the Hedgehogs home
    - Past cool, eh? - oft used in the Hedgehogs vocabulary
    - a gleaming red eye on either side of the main weapon - a reference to the last image in the final show. Yep, it still haunts me today

    So the truth is uncovered, Scotty wins and Richie now knows what kind of puns to use in Doomsdays intro
