Well, when I built it I thought it was safe. Public opinion deems it not safe, as we tent to apply a lack of common sence to all roboteers when writing rules. At that time or design and building featherweights were just leaving the windscreen wiper and mdf stage, so rules on links were not as strict.
In fact, right up until robotwars series 7 it was still legal. By safe I of course mean compliant with current rules, as I would never have designed and built the thing if I was not sure it was as safe as I could make it. Tantrum when concieved and built was compliant, but as the rules have tightened to ensure feathers are as policed as heavies, Tantrum no longer fits the rules, and cannot be modified to fit. This is a good thing as I dread to think what would happen if someone showed up with a bad copy of tantrum. Its only that this is a proffessionally made machine that fills me with the confidence to even contemplate fighting it. If Sam and the FRA are willing to run a robot that does not fit their own safety rules then thats up to them, but I think Tantrum has had his day, missed it, and is now relagated to demos only. Thats not to say Tantrum 2 wont be up for that though Geoff. Ive a huge admiration for Scorpion Junior, and look forward to fighting any and all featherweights from the scorpion camp.
I do have a selection of machine for you to play with, and if Sam can accept a cryptic application Ill fill the form in now.
