Using gold motors

Well I guess if he does need alittle weight back, ide take the rear drive motors out and replace them with skids then the bot would be able to turn on the disk axis rather than the centre point. Ive always seen it as a good feature for spinners to be able to turn on the centre of the weapon axis rather than the centre of the robot.

Weights going well, Im only 7.5kg in the pics. As Im planning on adding 4mm Ali around the sides and a little on the front, Im probably only going to use one of the hardox discs which means only around 1.8kg (or 2kg if you include the weight of the great big pulley) of disc weight. The ratio is exactly 1.8 to 1 off the gold which at a very rough estimate could give around 3800-4000rpm off the overvolted gold. Its certainly not going to be any kind of vortex but I hope the drive will make up for it, it could relly pack a punch driving full speed with the disc up and running... well... I hope

Chris has brought up a very sound point, just how far is the center line of the disc from the center line of your drive? Because if its any more than around 1/2 a disc radius, god help you if you need to make a tight turn! I know this from bitter experience! (ever seen a robot stand at 45 degrees from upright in the middle of the arena?!)
Just something for you to think about!

Theres a reason why Vortex had the axis of the weapon directly in line with the drive wheels (give or take a few mm).......

look at pimp 2, that had a really good drive aswell as a great weapon, but it was mounted infront. it Flipped itself completely over at one point.

thats no bad thing, if hed flipped and the disk is running downwards, he can self right

(to Geoff), the center of the 2wd format is directly beneath the axle, while in 4wd, the turning centre is 12cm away from the axle. This means it is about 4/5 of a disc radius away.

The width of the bot is quite wider than Pimp2 or Vortex (about 420mm), while it is only 400mm long. While the centre of gravity may be slightly higher than these two bots, I might just about get away with it.
