Can anyone tell me how to increase the speed of a S3106 apart from over-volt. I have had a go at building an Ant for Liam but it is rather slow. I would also like to know if you can increase the speed on a SD200.
Thanks
Paul

Well you can increase the speed of an sd200 servo i think but i cant remember of hand how.
The robotwars101.org forum is sans doute the place for such questions.
Rearrange the geartrain a bit.
ok Im not sure as to the gearbox arrangement, but I would imagen its the standard gearing.
Paul you should see 2 gears, one sat on top with one gear that splits the 2(this sits over the motor), you should be able to remove the gear above the motor and join the two gears one on top of each other, I do this by putting a thin bit of metal down the thick bit of plastic on the gear on top and use some glue just to help keep them together
hope that sheds some light
Thats as clear as mud Craig, I shall bring a servo along this weekend and perhaps you could explain it to me again. I can remove 2 gears and get it to work but its then too fast.
Thanks
Paul
Want it fast, no thats too fast, are some people never pleased?
What you need is to take out the PCB and replace it with a mini speed controller. I did look into building one that would fit into the servo case but didnt built it because there was not enough interest. I have the basic design somewhere, just needs finished, building and testing.
I think thats a little excessive, as servo boards are mini speed controllers, just closed loop (which its entirely overcome-able). Spped Modding servos seems to be more of an art than a science. It just needs playing around. Last year at debs I sped up my servos 3:1 using lego gears from the output shaft- considerably stronger than taking other gears out of the gear train. It was however more bulky. As you mentioned, take it to some of the ant folks tomorrow and see what they can do.
paul your ant looked very smart on saturday
hope to see some good things from it.
also about the sd200 mod
there will be guid one antweight.com when its up.. if you cant wait its also on my home site:
