You mean like fitting an LED?
I tried to tell the same thing many times before. The LED is a confirmation that the system is active, therefore more dangerous. It is a visual aid to ensure that people are aware that the link is in. That the system is live.
Mind you, a LED burning when the link is not in is a serious problem as well. And a LED not burning when the link is in is a serious problem too. You should not trust it to tell you that the robot is safe or unsafe, it is only a visual aid to remember something you should know but might have forgotten in the exitement. And it is a visual aid for those who dont know your robot and have to be near it for some reason.
Personally, I have found having lights on a robot helps diagnose problems you might experience in the arena. I had a pair of flashing blue beacons on the top of ToeCutter2 (and the animated pig of course!). They also helped as a reminder to turn the remote fail safe on/off as required, and gave an aid to the state of the electrics in the robot. The pig also helped, as it was in the failsafe circuit too, with visable movement and audible sound, though on a seperate circuit, so if the lights failed/got damaged etc, I still had an additional indicator. Seemed to work quite well all in all.

Hmmm, colourblindness... Im colourblind and have hell with the red and green LEDs on my SLA charger.
Maybe one day Ill label them
ok, with the hostile response that the on topic LED suggestion got, can we go back to airyplanes now please
Solution to the colourblindness thing - have a group of women to check the LEDs through some sort of binoculars - correct me if Im wrong, but my high school biology teacher told us that women cant be colourblind.
(Or have haemophilia, incidentally)

They can, but it is unusual (because of a genetic redundancy).
I have a better idea for spotting red/green (unless you want women to watch you with binoculars)...get some red and green pieces of glass...use as filters...
or pick a colour you can see? as it was you who picked the LED and its you that has the problem?
Women can have heamophilia, but the effects are normally less severe.
