Thread: Nitron : Featherweight Build Diary

  1. #1
Been a long time, the last time I built a robot for myself was 2018 with Cobalt my featherweight crusher to compete at the KOB event at the NEC, inbetween helping being a house roboteer on the reboot and Part of Team Cobalt for Battlebots.

This Christmas and New year I've had some time off running my Engineering Company ending up watching Mech+, Robot Wars Seasons and its got me wanting to build another, I've decided I'm going to use this Featherweight to get back into robot building, then to build a Heavyweight

For me using this forum and even before using the "original forum" (robotwars.tv/forum if I remember correctly) was a great place to talk about a subject I was obsessed with.

A while ago I attended RoboJojo with my Crusher, I really enjoyed the relaxed nature of the battles and not being so serious with what the "TV shows" have become, promoting a sportsman's class is a great idea and this build will be made to go to live events and sportsman events.

    Name: Nitron
    Weight Class: Featherweight
Radio System: Futaba with Realtime Telemetry
Weapon: Custom Onboard High Pressure Air Compressor @ 1000psi / NextGen Flow Valve - Flipper/Launcher
    Power: 6s 2700Mah Optipower Lipo
    Drive: 4WD Brushless
Drive Control: (Any Suggestions? I was using TZ85a's from ellis, need the same specs really)
    Armour: Hardox/Titanium

I will be posting updates during the design and building stages

    Regards
    Kenny

    Weekly Update

Arrived Parts / Scorpion Brushless Motors, SSR RC Switches, Optipower Lipos, Wheels and Telemetry Sensors

    Ordered Parts / Gearbox Gears

    ----------------------------------------
Looking over the FRA rules, I'm going to have a dump valve on each compressor stage so its completely pressure free when not in use.

I have a few parts designed in my head, just need some time this week on an evening to model them in 2D then into 3D

Still none the wiser about what brushless drive speed controllers I can use, will look further into this week

    Regards
    Kenny
