Thread: Nitron : Featherweight Build Diary

  1. #1
Been a long time, the last time I built a robot for myself was 2018 with Cobalt my featherweight crusher to compete at the KOB event at the NEC, inbetween helping being a house roboteer on the reboot and Part of Team Cobalt for Battlebots.

This Christmas and New year I've had some time off running my Engineering Company ending up watching Mech+, Robot Wars Seasons and its got me wanting to build another, I've decided I'm going to use this Featherweight to get back into robot building, then to build a Heavyweight

For me using this forum and even before using the "original forum" (robotwars.tv/forum if I remember correctly) was a great place to talk about a subject I was obsessed with.

A while ago I attended RoboJojo with my Crusher, I really enjoyed the relaxed nature of the battles and not being so serious with what the "TV shows" have become, promoting a sportsman's class is a great idea and this build will be made to go to live events and sportsman events.

    Name: Nitron (May Change)
    Weight Class: Featherweight Sportsman
Radio System: Futaba with Realtime Telemetry
    Power: Brushless/Brushed

I will be posting updates during the design and building stages

    Regards
    Kenny

    Weekly Update

Arrived Parts / Scorpion Brushless Motors, SSR RC Switches, Optipower Lipos, Wheels and Telemetry Sensors

    Ordered Parts / Gearbox Gears

    ----------------------------------------
Looking over the FRA rules, I'm going to have a dump valve on each compressor stage so its completely pressure free when not in use.

I have a few parts designed in my head, just need some time this week on an evening to model them in 2D then into 3D

Still none the wiser about what brushless drive speed controllers I can use, will look further into this week

    Regards

    Weekly Update

Arrived Parts / Brushless Drive Speed Controllers (Great service from Bristol Bot Builders)

Decided it will be best for me to make an evolved version of cobalt the hydraulic featherweight I made in 2018, I want this one to be more of a combat creature with some animatronics on it

Liking the sound of the creature/animatronic elements; going for the sort of flare that Razer and Warhead had?

    Hi Jamie,

A few years ago I started designing and getting parts together for a featherweight walker but after seeing what I'd be fighting I decided not to has it would be destroyed since everyone built spinners, since seeing the sportsman class and creature combat Battlebots have done I've decided to continue with it but take it further, below is my plan

As a kid I did warhammer and my army was Lizardmen in fantasy (Seraphon now) I always thought it would be cool to have a working warhammer creature, I'm now going to make it

My Goal is to have a 5+mph walking Lizard/Bull Creature what I can enter sportsman events and also maybe start another Robot Class (Creature Combat) with ideas of no arena and different terrains, what walks like a animal meaning the body moves and doesn't just have little legs what quickly move, since creatures don't turn on the spot I plan to have the body articulate.

Moving eyes, blinking, expanding rib cage (breathing) also

I have just caught up with work so I can get on with it now
