Thread: Post battle analysis and repair

I check in now and then when i see new posts

I like interesting ways new robot designs come through, and seeing older tech still working is great too

I took three Featherweight Robots to the latest Robodojo live event November 2025 and had a spot of bother with all three.

Sometimes it's harder to diagnose a problem than repair and other times it's the reverse.

First up was Danger UXB which I ran for three rounds and it seemed fine but the last round against Rob Weston's new Feather

Haymaker and UXB started okay but within seconds it went dead!-first instinct is link but after removing a drive motor to

inspect the interior link connection and wires it turned out to be a screw block electrical connector where the main negative wire

had come loose-simple fix but harder to diagnose.

Second up on bench was Project Fear-the new Srimech had worked in battle so I was quite pleased but there was a distinct lack of

traction on the wheels-I use old cam belt screwed to a scooter wheel and found the cambelt had worn down to the screws so

effectively the metal heads of the screws were running on the metal Arena surface-I replaced the worn cambelt and ensured the

screws were well below the rubber teeth of the belt.

Talking of teeth- you always get some teething problems with a new build and I just managed to finish my new Robot

Coffin Dodger just days before this event.

Coffin Dodger is in the shape of a coffin with a spade as a weapon at the front-guess you could say it could dig it's own grave!.

First event, first fight!-the shovel worked well but I had no drive on one side of the Robot, initially I thought it must be the

ratchet on the drill but having removed the motor when I got home I found a broken weld on the drive shaft.

The Robot also appeared to have poor grip on the slick tyres during the fight so I have cut some tread into the tyre to help resolve

    this problem.

The cuts to the Coffin lid are courtesy of Sam's Captain Chainway who showed little mercy or respect
