Battery / speed controller question

Could using batteries in series cause a speed controller to blow
even if the volts value is less than the speed controller is capable
of handling.
ie could the speed controller see the battery set up as reversed
polarity?.

If the fully charged voltage rather than nominal was higher than the rated voltage of the controller then sure. What controller and what batteries?

If you connected the polarity the wrong way then that could happily blow a controller.

I'm trying to avoid and eliminate all causes-recall the ragebridge2
and the 2x4s lipos in series giving a voltage of 34 volts estimated.
I thought the speed controller might have seen a reversed polarity
rather than a overvoltage because the batteries were in series as in
the two central battery terminals are connected neg to pos.
The Ragebridge would probably suit our Robot perfectly but we need
to get it repaired locally-without sending it to US or buy new/or alternative
and if it was over voltage, whats the max battery power we could put into
it 2x3s lipos in series ?
We are only running on cim wheelchair motors 24 volts.
So the secondary question is where can I get the speed controller repaired
and thirdly would it be worth it cost wise.

That shouldn't have killed it but obviously you have a dead controller. Did you change the current limit settings at all?

I would recommend running the ragebridge on 6s. I have had great success with PP3D and crossfire running them at those voltages on T64s.

As far as repair goes, I'm aware that there is someone on the continent (name escapes me) that can repair controllers or you could see if Rory from nuts is able but as to whether it's worth it cost wise I'm not sure because I've no experience of it.

Just a thought did the receiver have power when connecting lipo...

might have tried to draw power through esc as soon as you connected lipo ?

I had a friend look at the ESC after it went pop on the battery connection terminals
and they said the current limit should have been set at max or 0, I dont believe nial
changed the setting prior to plugging in the batteries.
I may contact Rory and see if he can help -dont really fancy sending it to europe
or USA.

The radio reciever was not connected in any way-was this a major mistake ?
and neither were the motors
So after reading up a little on RC sites, it seems that the speed controller will
not arm without reading a radio signal from the radio control rather than go
berzerk due to lack of signal ? or even blow the ESC-any more info welcome.
