If you're using a larger connector, you can often get a screw through the middle, although obviously be careful because you don't want to bridge the gap accidentally.
I'm currently just using the same connectors as the battery uses (BEC) as it makes it easier to make a replacement. Thanks for your tips - I'm contemplating the use of screws and cable ties, so I'm going to have some experiments.
