Beetleweight Pneumatics

Has anyone looked into fitting a beetleweight with pneumatics yet? Having had a quick look around on Google, there's a few small cylinders and valves on sale, but nothing that looked very high power or high speed... may mean pneumatic cylinders at this scale may have to be hand made?

Also, is there a specified maximum pressure for beetleweights like there is in antweights, or would you be allowed the full 1000psi? If so, that'd be a lot of kick!

I'm looking into building a beetle at some point, but am not planning on doing a pneumatic one straight off; was just interested to see if anyone had done some research on it..

Do you need a safety locking bar for the flipper on this scale?

Flange/XXX did not have one so not sure. I can't say one way or another. I don't think it is particularly hard or stressful to add a locking bar and it would be okay to be weighted without it in place. It would be a very good idea to add one.

Fair enough. I'm thinking of doing a spring loaded flipper on a beetle over the summer... Will probably add something to keep it shut just for the sake of my fingers :L

I tried building a beetle with a small air compressor and a small ram. Both ended up a tad too heavy. If I ever find a lighter compressor I'll revisit that idea. For now I'm hoping my solenoids will do the trick. Still need to find the time to start building.

Thought about doing solenoids... You could get a pretty good kick if you charged some caps up to just under the voltage limit and dumped that through a big solenoid :L
