New ESC help

I currently run a 2x12 Sabretooth that’s getting a bit tatty. I like the idea of stuff like the Electronizes being sealed boxes I can tape together and stuff into the robot and forget about them. Has anyone any experience of knock-off electronizes and a cheap mixer off ebay that runs alright? If it will make the robot horrid to drive I would rather fork out for another decent speedo, but for the few events we enter I’d rather not if I can get away with it.

Not really into Botbitz’s to be honest, don’t really think they’re worth the daft money.

Help/advice welcome and appreciated.

£84 (w/o postage) for a pair of easily the best bang for buck around esc. Each to their own I guess.
They do a smaller 30a version which could handle a drill motor each and that comes to £45 (w/o postage) Control would far surpass electronize.

Also you may have problems with cheap mixers and failsafing. Only a certain type failsafe. The cheap ones I've used just tend to go haywire when the TX gets turned off.

If you find the BotBitz daft money, then you don't have a lot of options.

Anything else capable doing the task is more expensive.

I'm no fan of Botbitz but I prefer them well over Electronizes any day of the week and are certainly worth the money.

I've opened a tin of worms now.

I don't think they're bad ESC's, I meant it relevant to my situation in that I only build drill powered plywood creations. There isn't really much point in me buying expensive ESC's when they're potential will never be realised in one of my robots. By comparison of Victor 883's and so on yes they are a good deal when the current handling etc. is taken into consideration.

With regards to price I thought the Botbitz's were more expensive than £84 in the long run as they needed re-programming? Have also been reading about people's woes with them in the build diaries with certain mixers and receivers?

I should have explained that I'm looking for a couple of plastic box type ESC's with a decent mixer and that I'd rather use something other than the Botbitz's. This is due to the problems people have mentioned when mixing with some receivers since the equipment they were using to mix was a model I was about to buy.

If you want to avoid mixing issues, you'll have the think about the more expensive dual speedo's.

Sabertooth, Scorpion XL, XXL or Reiner 4.1

When you buy from Botbitz you buy reprogrammed, you buy from hobbyking you need to program yourself.

what voltage do you run as there are some ok rc car esc that will give reasonable control .....better than Electronizes but not as good as the botbitz/dual esc

I run 12V onto the most basic of drill motors. Just after to spin some drills really. The whole robot has cost about £15 to build so far from old bits and some ply. The scoop is an old PC case. It's all so low budget something like the TZ85's are out of my league.

For 2015 my Dad has said he feels his breakdown is on the mend and he'll be up to getting back in the workshop. He's a rally car engine builder and fabricator so his involvement could really be spectacular. Some of his creations are at the same level as Mario, Trev, Mouldy and so on. If I got to that stage I would invest in some Victors or similar but whilst I'm building them there's no reason to spend big money.

Have just found some Mtroniks marine esc's that look pretty good.
