Danny,

Will plan to have the reg at 90° to the bottle so by angling the reg up it will stop liquid at it's normal position.

I prevent fluid problems by running the reg outlet through a 6mm OD (4mm ID pipe) to a buffer tank. If fluid passes through the reg the reduced pipework allows the pressure to build and shut off the reg before it can damage anything. The longer the pipe the better...

I reckon I'll try your system too, since I'll almost certainly be going upside down at some point. When the bottle is at full capacity, is it literally full of liquid right to the top?

No, a CO2 bottle gets filled on weight, not pressure like most gasbottles. A full CO2 bottle at roomtemp is about 2/3ths full of liquid.

Overfill a bottle, and it heats up after filling (filling a CO2 bottle is best done with a very cold recieving bottle, and a roomtemp donorbottle) , the pressure will rise very fast, untill the burst disk blows.
