Wanting some action in the name of the house robots, Asterix is quick to oblige and happily lifts the yellow'n'black robot up, but fails to keep a stable hold on it and GFI falls off... to be stampeded by that damned Scottish flipper! Wedge Devo screams in and wedges GFI, flipping it directly into the upraised patented "moustache forks" of Asterix!GFI bounces down off those and onto Wedge Devo, pushing its flipper back down. Devo flips again, but Asterix lowers the forks, so GFI gets stuck between the flipper and the forks! Luckily for him, ToC comes in from behind and gets under the rear skirt of Wedge Devo, and with a great heave-HO, pancake-flips Wedge Devo, straight over top of Asterix! Wedge Devo lands right on top of the house robot, still right-side-up, but not sure where to go! At that moment, Tengu rejoins the fray, and takes a bite out of ToC's side by slamming into it, knocking ToC into the wall and causing a bit more damage to the wheelguard! ToC didn't like that much, and now blazes after Tengu with a vengeance - and just narrowly avoids the other house robot, Rorschach, who'd sped across the arena to help Asterix fight off the other invaders! Good For It dodges around him as well, escaping the CPZ, so it looks like Wedge Devolution is in some trouble here! Rorschach stops outside of the CPZ, giving Asterix some room. What's going on?! Asterix leaves us in doubt hardly any longer, as he begins to spin around! Yee-haw, ride 'em cowbot!
Unfortunately Wedge Devolution isn't exactly a star at riding a Terror-Bull and the force eventually shakes him free!
Rorschach charges at him straight away, but Steve backs his machine off! Who'd want to ride Rorschach, anyway?! Concurrently, ToC has wedged Tengu and now given the British spinner some flipper love, in the form of a catapult-style flip that sends the Holt machine at least 8 feet into the air! Tengu crashes down onto its back, but immediately begins to self-right! ToC wants more! And it gets more, but not more of what it expected - Good For It slams into ToC's side again, doing slightly more damage to the wheelguard and sending ToC away from Tengu! ToC reels, and Tengu gets back up to speed! GFI however goes after Tengu, not caring who he's attacking, as long as he has his defined targets! Good god, kudos for the multi-tasking there, Sir 'Zooki! Looks like the hazards have slowed down now too... quite the pity that is. The spinners collide, their wills intent own their own spinners instead of the arena one! CRAAAASH!!! Teeth meet teeth again, and sparks rain down in the midst of the mighty blow! Tengu goes flying, hits the side wall, and stabilizers itself, but GFI didn't fare as well, flying straight back into ToC! Well, guess what Josh thinks of that, me good chum? FLIP! GFI soars into the air, flicked like a bi-centennial half-dollar coin!
It crashes down onto the floor heavily, but doesn't get a breather before Tengu comes back in and lashes out at the stalled spinner, knocking it away with a minor hit - straight into Wedge Devo, who's back for more! FLIP! GFI is taking heavy abuse now as it lands pretty damn hard onto the arena floor - but ToC doesn't take the cheap shot! He instead attacks Tengu again! Alex manoeuvres his machine away - but not quickly enough! ToC has his say! FLIP! Tengu soars like a bird, but not as gracefully, and the landing is even less graceful! Tengu bounces end over end, and comes to rest on its back again! Up goes the arm, and ToC races in to prevent Tengu from recovering, but the flip, it is mis-timed! Tengu scurries away, and ToC gives chase!
GFI itself is in a spot of trouble itself, having endured yet another flip from the Braveheart machine, and finds itself unable to get away from it! Wedge Devo saunters around with GFI on its flipper plate, looking around for Tengu, but finds ToC nearer! And guess what? Good For It is beginning to spin up again, even while on the flipper! OOH... there goes the Scotland flag and the siren! "Criminy!" shouts Steve! Wedge Devo flies all the way across the arena and with an almighty SLAAAM, bulldozes GFI straight into ToC, as Josh turns to try and get the front in - GFI hits ToC's side! ToC gets nailed, and is ricocheted into Tengu, who's back up to full spinning speed! CRAAASH!!! The ram plate takes it, but unlike the now warped wheelguard, takes the hit seemingly just fine. ToC however is directed into the wall side-on, and has to re-orient itself to get away from it, since the paddles are in front of him! As he tries to reverse j-hook to get away, Wedge Devo flies in for another bout! FLIP! ToC is knocked into the wall! It self-rights but only into Tengu's spinning blades! CRASH!!! And it's sent into Wedge Devo yet again, but GFI pounces upon the slowed Tengu! And... well, it looks like Tengu's anti-spinning ring is doing its job, as GFI's blades hit it. GFI doesn't slow down much though, and continues to slowly eat into the anti-spinner ring, very veeeeery slowly. Tengu gets the hint and moves away to try and spin up, but is pursued! Wedge Devo meanwhile is having a blast with flipping about its bulky adversary! Every time Josh self-rights his robot, Steve is right there to counter it! And eventually, they get near the arena spinner! Wedge Devo rams him straight into it! And hilariously, the spinner uses Wedge Devo as a ramp to send ToC flying over in a brutal collision; ToC lands in the middle of the arena, its back end badly dented up! The good news? It self-rights away from Wedge Devo, and is in time to face him again! He gets under, he flips! Wedge Devo... lands right-side-up. They lock flippers! Oh my! And Good For It and Tengu? Well, Tengu's recovered and there's another amazing hit which separates the two spinners, and now it's become evident that both of them are really feeling the effects of their weaponry - they lack some drivetrain power now, and their maddened spinners don't accelerate to full speed as quickly! Ye gods, has the spirit of MDU channeled these two behemoths?! Eventually they reach full, deadly speeds again, and haul arse towards each other, as fast as their weakened motors can carry them! CRAAAASH!!! An entire tooth goes flying off of GFI, but Tengu goes flying into the wall! GFI seems to be very unbalanced now, now sputtering, now rattling, rocking back and forth, the loss of its bottom tooth making it very unwieldy! Tengu tries to spin back up itself... but it can't! Have all those hits finally killed off power to its own weapon?! And in come both flippers, like hawks turning on weakened prey! Wedge Devo plows into Good For It and launches it high into the air, while Truth or Consequences makes tracks for the weakened Tengu and tosses it without resistance! Thing is, Wedge Devolution is able to keep Good For It in check, but Tengu's drivetrain, while weakened, seems to outdo Good For It's as he lands right-side-up and then dodges another hit from ToC, sauntering around the American and trying to push him! I don't think that's a battle you're going to win, Tengu! Wa-hey! Wedge Devo charges back in and lets fly with a huge flip on ToC! Cheeky little sod you are, Steve!ToC rights itself, angered, but anger will only get you so far - Wedge Devo flips him again!

Good grief, are we near the end already?! Good For It hobbles over to Tengu with its weakly spinning ring, but does nothing to the green machine. Tengu tries to push it, but has little luck. Meanwhile, Wedge continues flipping ToC, who bounces into one of the paddles and is sent across the arena in comical fashion!

Wedge Devo continues to 1-up the American by flipping him again, but a 360 flip there means ToC himself recovers, and then weakly tips Wedge Devo over after getting under! Them flippers running a little low on juice, perhaps?

What's this?! Wedge Devo fires its own flipper, but can't right itself?! The flippers are indeed weakening, just like the spinners' weaponry! But it's a bit too late for a count-out, because...

Whew! That was a melee for the ages! And since all four robots are still moving, this'll be a judges' decision for the ages, too... next post!

TACTICS
MiDAS: Smash things with my axe, which is the only properly damaging weapon in the fight, and try not to get flipped, clamped or lifted. Prop them up with my lifters if I have to.
Cryoseism: Spin up and hit things. Try to team up with Coldforge against the other two if possible. Avoid Killotine's axe, smash its sides up, and go for Creature's wheels.

Welcome to the Crash & Burn Mini-Tournament of Death 5!Over the course of the last 4 tournaments, we've had a nice wave of interesting opponents win the gold! PsycloniZer, Do Or Die, Monsoon Season, and Vertigo all have nice shiny trophies on display in their homes. PsycloniZer is sadly the only one who has returned to reclaim its crown, as Psychosis. The trouble is, there are 23 other machines in his way! And each of them has the bite to match their bark!
So let's get stuck in, shall we?

Revolver Ocelot vs. The Servant's Assistant vs. Dantomkia vs. Psychosis
Hailing from the United States of America is a lean, mean, fighting machine named Revolver Ocelot, affectionally named after the Metal Gear character. It has decent 4-wheel-drive and a hefty 15kg spinning bar at the front, capable to putting out 50 kilojoules. That's more than Typhoon 2 could put out, you betcha. 7mm G5 Titanium is nice as well but could fall prey to the heavier spinners, and that rear wedge doesn't work inverted.
Mini-Tourn History: None
And here's the first of our three British machines in this melee. The Servant's Assistant is a nice compact little box-wedge with 6-wheel-drive, decent 4-motor drivetrain, and a nice top speed of 40mph! Though it's electronically limited to 18mph, it's still quite robust. It has a decent flipper which can hoist 500kg fairly easily, and some side semi-circle panels to prevent it from being stranded. The 6mm Titanium however could be eaten up by today's standard spinners.

The second British machine in the fight, and the third overall, is none other than Mike Lambert's own real robot, Dantomkia! Now in its 5th incarnation, it has an all-Hardox shell and ye olde reliable Bosch 750w driving its 2 wheels. Its flipper has been upgraded greatly over the latest version, but an axe could likely find its way within the flipper gap...

And the final British machine to be introduced here is none other than our first champion, Psychosis! Not radically changed from its championship incarnation: still the same cylindrical shape with spinning hammers on a triangular frame, and 4-wheel-drive driven by A28-400s. However, the spinning ring itself is now comprised of 20mm Ti10V alloy instead of Hardox, and thanks to two smaller motors powering the ring, it puts out less energy than it did before, though this will protect it more from self-knockouts. Will AJ regain his crown?

Another start, another tournament. Let's get it on!
Looks like the quickest in this fight is Dantomkia, surprisingly, who jettisons near the sides of The Servant's Assistant and attempts to flip them over! But Lian isn't as defeated as that. With a burst of speed from the box-wedge, suddenly Dantomkia finds its prey gone and it stops quizzically. Where's The Servant? Right there! They backed up and let Dantomkia drive directly in front of them! Servant's mean, inn'ee?But not nearly as mean as the resulting flip, which sends Dantomkia tumbling across the arena! And who else to get flung into than our fellow American entrant? With a sickening CRUNCH, Revolver Ocelot gets its first hit of the fight by shearing into the front corner of Dantomkia, sending Mike Lambert's newest darling twirling about like an old vinyl record! Revolver indeed! Dantomkia gets nailed again as they spin, and this time there's a noticeable dent in that Hardox shell! Dantomkia isn't going to take that lying down, though, and shrugging off a glancing third hit, they get under Revolver Ocelot and flip the black beast onto its back! And there's another flip! Ocelot could be in trouble! Oho, could the tables turn here?! The momentarily forgotten former champion says NO! Psychosis, up to full speed now, charges into Dantomkia's backside and delivers all those lovely 75 kilojoules of energy into that Hardox shell; Dantomkia is shot into the side wall! But Psychosis didn't fare much better in terms of displacement; they got sent back several feet too! Servant capitalizes on the ex-champ's stunned state, moving straight in between the hammers into the main body, and flicking Psychosis into the air! The durable ring spinner nonetheless falls with a CRASH and Servant keeps with him, making sure he can't spin up at all! Away they go to the hammer corner! And as the pulverizer awaits its delicious offering of metal, Revolver Ocelot is trying to claw one back for the spinners here, and it's doing a good job of it so far as that bar continues to smack Dantomkia away, denting the front corners up more and more after each hit, and the team under captain Mike Lambert look displeased. Oho, there's a particularly savage hit and Dantomkia has pretty visible damage by now... but what's this? They've charged back in?! Oh no! Ocelot's bar stops demolishing! They're flipped again! The flipper of Dantomkia is cleverly tucked because the two wedge points, so it's not like Revolver Ocelot can rip it off, and boy has that benefitted the Dantomkia boys! There's another flip, and they're approaching our newest addition to the house robot family: Teresa, the nun who's very cross!
It seems Josh Noel of Team Blood Gulch has a bad history with the house robot - how could that be? Why, he looks more like a raging Scotsman than an American at the moment! But they reach the CPZ anyway, and Teresa snags Ocelot. Dantomkia isn't done, though! There's another flip before Teresa can react, and Ocelot goes flying over the house robot!
While Mike Lambert is having his fun, the pulverizer has been beating a resounding beat into the top armour of Psychosis, each hit making a resounding THUD, but hardly phasing the spinning monster. The Servant's Assistant keeps him there... watch out, Lian! Remember what happened to Killer B! Servant backs off, but adds a flip as a parting shot. Psychosis gets a hammer momentarily caught up on the pulverizer's axle stand, sparking a scare within Andrew Jackson, but a stray hammer hit dislodges the ex-champ. The problem with that is... Servant's able to immediately attack again! Wow! Psychosis continues to ingest more hammer torture! Lian Walsh is enjoying this wholeheartedly, and shares a joke with his teammates, while Andy is trying everything he can to try and get Psychosis to escape this with some kind of dignity... and escape he does! Another stray hammer hit has knocked the cylindrical terror away from Servant's grasp! Lian tears his eyes back to the match and Servant chases Psychosis down, but Psychosis is up to a respectable enough RPM to bounce into Servant's corner and send them both flying, and now Psychosis begins to really get spun up! The pulverizer hits have only served to make the former champion mad as hell, and he's not gonna take it anymore! Servant blazes in like a freight train, but a deft slide to the side allows Psychosis to get in a major shot! And Servant, getting flung away like a ragdoll, takes some heavy damage here, as an entire front panel, just beside the flipper, has been flung off entirely, exposing the mechanics within! Psychosis must have invoked the spirit of Son of Whyachi; tearing off titanium panels was the shuffler's strategy!Servant approaches more cautiously, pretending the facial damage was but superficial. Psychosis sticks and moves, not allowing Servant to get a clear shot. Eventually, though, Lian has to bite the bullet if he wants anything done, here, and charges Psychosis! But sadly, that was just what the Shropshire spinner was expecting! Another corner hit dislodges the side panel somewhat and sends Servant skittering across the arena...
...to crash into the back of Dantomkia! At last, the two battles have merged! Dantomkia turns about as Ocelot languishes, stuck behind Teresa, and gets under The Servant's Assistant! Using its improved flipping arm, it launches Servant into the air, who crashes upside-down. Lian quickly self-rights, but not quick enough! Psychosis, though moving slower than usual, has made tracks on him and now belts out another heavy blow, smacking Servant into the side of the house robot not too far away! Teresa gets under Servant and shoves him away, allowing Ocelot to finally make his escape! Dantomkia, however, isn't having any of that, and promptly attacks the American robot again, flipping and propping Ocelot up against the corner, only for Ocelot for fall back down onto it. Dantomkia backs up for a better angle, when Psychosis catches up yet again! Mike Lambert wasn't blind to this, but Dantomkia can't turn in time and they eat a huge shot to the side, which is deadly because they were right next to the wall and are mashed right against it! Teresa is back for more pain dishing, and promptly punches Revolver Ocelot. Josh gets the message and hurries out of there, managing to dodge Psychosis, who's spinning up again. Servant is twitching, but not quite immobile... so Revolver Ocelot takes the cheap shot and buries the bar into their side! Servant gets sent right over the slots! Robotnik, Robotnik... Tails. Aw, poot. No overpowered hazards today, gents.More importantly, Team Blood Gulch has had the last say on the fate of Servant... unless you count The Watcher moving to make the first count-out of the tournament!

And The Servant's Assistant is the first to go! Asterix is out of his CPZ like a flash, and due to the veteran house robot's enhanced power, he bulldozes into Servant and mashes them so hard against the wall you'd have thought an earthquake just struck!Dantomkia meanwhile is back in business, getting under the now sluggish Psychosis and tossing it into the air! But Revolver Ocelot comes to the rescue, delivering a hefty shot to the rear of the Lambert machine! Now it's Dantomkia that's sluggish, and now it can't catch up to Psychosis before the ex-champ is back at full deadly RPMs! Ocelot takes another bite out of Dantomkia! This pings him into Psychosis, who pinballs him back into Ocelot! Keeping with the arena theme, are we, boys?
Ocelot hasn't had a chance to spin up again so he kind of pushes Dantomkia into Psychosis, and Psychosis wails on Dantomkia with another hit. Dantomkia sails into the side wall... and finally lies still, beat broken and scarred! As Asterix lifts up the remains of Servant, The Watcher sidles over to Dantomkia's prone form and delivers its eulogy...

It was a strong start for the British flippers, but in the end they were torn up and spun out! Bar and cage prevail as Revolver Ocelot and the former champion Psychosis advance to Round 2!
