Thread: Boring Brick

  1. #41
I've decided maybe putting an active weapon on the robot for the uk champs ( which hopefully i can get to) and i really like the idea of an axe, i've got a 2665w brushless that i was trying to sell but can't seem to shift and was wondering whether anybody has any ideas on how to make an axe/hammer weapon with it, i wouldnt expect it to be anything spectacular, just to look a bit more interesting, the motor in question is this one http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...0KV_2665W.html any help would be much appreciated.

    Check out this - http://www.fightingrobots.co.uk/thre...-(no-name-yet)
Basically the same thing, looks rather complicated but it certainly proves that it's doable!

Thanks for the reply but i would need something much simpler than that, i haven't got access to anything like the equipment that robochallenge have, looking to make something fairly simple if that's possible with this kind of weapon.

I would just make a spinner, but 1) i haven't built one before and so wouldn't know where to start and 2) unless somebody has a disc that they're not using and want rid of i don't have the money to get my own machined.

Could anybody point me towards a suitable relay to power an axe weapon? found these but not sure if they're any good http://www.maplin.co.uk/p/24v-30a-dc...ve-relay-n01aw

That one is a standard 12 or 24V relais. Fine to upgrade an old electronise or to make an RC switch something heavier, like a hefty solenoid from a valve. But for an electric axe that works it's rather a waste of money.

In Kashei we use a piece of custom electronics, to fire a Speed 900 @6S. But the setup is prone to molten motors, so it needs more R&D.

Best bet atm is to use the TZa85 hacked speedo to control the motor of an electric axe.

Does anybody have any tips on shortening a length of chain?, i've got some 6mm stuff that is way longer than i need

We just used a hammer and a thin-strong-something to knock out pins in and out accordingly. Naturally, that got boring quite quickly, and eventually we bought something similar to this: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/TK012-6mm-...item53f9ff7fb5

Better than the hammer and pliers approach... but not by a lot, haha. It'll do the job but is still mighty fiddly.
