How to take the pressure out of a CO2 fire extinguisher

As above really, I've commandeered an old one from the guy who comes in work to check ours. I'm not looking to build anything pneumatic, I'm after grinding it up to build a dozer blade. If I just let it off as though I'm putting out a fire will that be it empty? Or am I better off taking it down to somewhere on the local industrial estate and giving them a fiver to take the valve of for me? I'm fine taking the valve off myself if the pressure is gone lol.

yes, just operate it as if you were putting out a fire then the pressure will eventually equalize with atmosphere. Then you can safely remove it with a spanner.

Just be aware that the jet of CO2 will be cold so don't be silly about what you do with it! Or you can do what I did a number of years ago at uni for a laugh.....

Wow you really didn't know how to vent of a bottle ? Don't you see us all venting off to refill, as your unsure just a reminder don't do it in a confined space as we don't Like to breath co2 in !

haha I'm a simple soul! And that vid has been bookmarked!! Well I used to go diving a lot, and we were always getting moaned at to not muck around with "empty" tanks so I thought well I'll just check before I blow my arm off etc
