After one of these for my feather weight. Seeing if any one has replaced theirs with a wotty in the past couple of years as I felt they didn't make very good heavy speedos.
EDIT* Found out that I could use some of the victor speedos
Essentially if you have a speedo which can support 50-60 amps current draw, works between 24-36 volts and light then I am interested

Tough As Nails uses a Sidewinder for years. No issues.
Gravity 5, Sidewinder. Some issues.

Just a Q, why the high Voltage?
Set it at 24v and reprogram some turnigy 85a brushless controllers

I didn't mean to cause offense. But many people have told me about blowing theirs. I have heard that a bad motor stall on a 750 (chain locking up for example) blows them very easily. I guess your expertise on superb gear box creation is testimony to that you have yet to blow one up.
Ooo think I got out of that one smoothly.
Oh and 36 volts because I planned to go up to that voltage.
Mr Cairns, I stayed up till 4 am searching around for options (not as late as you two though Jeasus) and found out about the 85as
Then read up on converting the original.
Sleep wasnt plentiful but I think those will do nicely. Just ordered the last two. It does mean I have to go down in volts but I save a ton of cash and a ton of weight and space. Hope they work, will be a miracle speedo if they do.
I would like to try these 85A controllers too, is there anyone doing hacked versions of them in the UK yet?
I was out drinking last night which means I always wake up at odd hours and have a funny sleep.
They do work and I've found them to work well. I believe some people have had issues with the orange receivers however I used a frsky 2.4gig conversion set on my 40meg gear and they work well. I just duct taped them to the inside of the bot with a loop of duct tape for the champs and they handled everything that the 24v gimsons could throw at them without getting warm. I believe others have pushed them further and again had no issues.

For what it's worth I have tried lots of speed controllers and found the sidewinder ok for heavies too, in Cherub I have one and it seems ok, But I will be changing it for a Wotty soon. I would advise the Sidewinder is a little over kill for a Feather. I have found the Victor 883 speed controllers good and I think they do a high volt type
The only real issue with Sidewinders is that the BEC is too light. That means that a fault in the BEC (like the voltage regulator blowing) can cause a chain reaction, where the control circuits of the sidewinder suddenly has the same voltage as main power. That cause the fets to blow.
Best advice for use of sidewinder in heavies (or feathers on 6S for example) is to not use the BEC feature, but power your receiver and switches separately with external BEC or receiver battery.
I would personally recommend the HV Victors. Small, light, and man enough for the task. Only drawback is no BEC and it has fans on it which are prone to breaking (I've used the ones in Satanix without fans for the last 2 years, no problems thus far).
The TZ85's you have ordered should do you very well. The victors are reliable, but the control on them is pretty poor in comparison.
