Hi everyone,
Can anyone recomend a source of high pressure 5/2 valves or failing that 3/2 valves?
I'm not very fussed about flow.
I've tried googling it but am drawing a blank.
Can you get hydraulic 5/2 valves and then use them with full pressure co2?

Doesn't excist commercialy unless you're going into the fossiele fuel business. And those are monsters. Not suitable for us.
There are a few roboteers who made working 3/2 and 5/2 FP valves. Team Mute, Team Compactory Hard and Woody come to mind. TAN still is using the 3/2 Woody.
Hydraulic 4/2 or 4/3 valves will leak on CO2, and probably lock up, as most use very accurate polished plungers and bores to have a seal.
Use Burkerts they're 2/2 so you need 2 of them for 3/2 or 4 for 5/3, if you're running it in a FW then just use one and have a small hole in the ram to exhaust the ram.
How high do you wanna go? Some norgrens go up to 10 or 12 bar if that would do, as opposed to the usual 8.

Not many teams that use anything in between. Again, I only know about that Woody made some setups in the 30 bar range.
The Burkert Blazerbotics refers to is type 5404. officialy ment for 50 bar, but 13 years (and pressure tests) of use in robots does prove they are reasonably dependable on 55-70 bar if the coil is overvolted from 24V to 36v.

Could I get hold of 4 small ball valves and control that with some servos? Are there any smaller/cheaper alternatives to a burket as I don't need much flow rate as its being used to control a QEV.
Serious servo's you're talking about. There is a reason there is a 5 cm handle on an avarage ballvalve. But yes, it is possible.
There are smaller Burkerts of the 5404 series, but those ain't much cheaper.
And I know of 2 alternatives that are a tad cheaper than a Burkert 5404.
1 is a Slovakian brand called Alpha. We had 2.
Those are now in Wedgie and Microgravity. never found a supplier over here that is "reasonable".
The other is a Chinese "semi copy" of a Burkert 5404, those look nice in pricetag, but after P&P and import duties it's not worth the effort.

As I wrote, it looks interesting, but I have the paperwork to prove it ain't worth the hassle. "Hidden costs" such as customs make the pricetag double.
Next time I'll buy Burkert.
Easier to get and easier to swap.
