I have discussed this at length many times on the forum before and I am not going to do it again.
I still think the 2 degrees of freedom rule is too restrictive, but I am alone on this. (interpreting the rule means both of my walkers are now downgraded to shufflers)
If the 2 degrees of freedom rule stays, and it will, there will be no fighting robot walkers on the scene.
Why? Simple they would be too slow, expensive and complex to be used.

Bacon Wizard, nobody is actualy trying to dissuade you from building the next Warhead or Mechadon.
But we have seen so many promising people overreaching and stop before they got anywere. And that is what we want to avoid.

Also, you're welcome to sample the Bacon Explosion in the House of Chaos.

This sounds a really interesting project speaking as probably the only person with an active walker.
I would say "give it a go" as a final goal.
First I would say get a robot any robot. feather would be best and run it in the arena Scott bots make a simple kit that would do. you need this as walkers take years to get right when you do have experience of them. and it is easy to loose heart on the way. also you can learn what works and what doesn't with regards to weapons and armour. and get to meet the crazy crew!!
next a test bed this would be first a static model on a stand or small none combat robot for the purpose of developing the mechanism. it sounds a waist of time but it really is the short cut. and will save you years!
These things are complex, to give you some idea if you count everything, there are about 20 separate bits in one of Pilgrims feet alone! and there are eight of them, the legs are more complex and so the parts number is very much higher.
Don't be put of but do understand the length of the journey you will be taking!
If you manage this you will be Legend.

That wouldn't count and I don't think you understand what a degree of freedom is

Are you sure Gary? Its one of the few mechanisms that was allowed in Robotwars... I was going to use that mechanism at some point. Who would we have to clear it with in order to be allowed the weight increase?

Yes I'm sure and it may have been allowed in robot wars but then we now allow highers voltages than robot wars so things change.

With good reason it's difficult to make a walker in my eyes. That mechanism in a featherweight FBS of the sort like little spinner would be devastating as you could in theory have a machine with a 13kg disc on a brushless motor. You don't get the extra weight for nothing.

That was basically my idea, I have the designs for it and everything, parts spec'd, costed up but its around 3 thousand with no mess ups. Its also why my machine isn't called Eventorizon. I am saving it for that!

Besides I cant see any team with a spinner wanting to ban walkers. They might get defeated a few times but they will come back until that one time they can pull the legs off one by one like a spider :-) I would even if I had to loose 10 times to do it. It would be so worth it!

This walkers thing needs to move to a new thread, or resurrect the old one. As for this build, start at the bottom and work up. It may not be what you want but you wont waste a load of money and time like I did.
