Hi firstimer2, I've recently made my first robot, currently a 2wd pushbot (made of MDF!) but will be adding a lifter over the next few months. The electronics I've used (and many others use) are as follows:

    Receiver: Orange RX http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Orange-Rx-...item27d12c3341

    Transmitter: Spektrum DX5e http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Spektrum-D...item23299894cc

Motors: PowerBase 12V Drill motors (from HomeBase): http://www.homebase.co.uk/webapp/wcs...tNumber=289449

The motors need to be modified, I used Ellis Ware's video here:

Speed Controllers: BotBitz 85A (one for each motor): http://www.botbitz.com/index.php?rou...&product_id=59 (these have to be ordered from from Australia)

Mixer: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/GWS-V-TAIL...item20c29a50cf (if you want to control the robot from one stick on the transmitter rather than 2)

    Batteries: 2x 9.6V NiMH http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/9-6V-3300m...item338040430d

    Wheels: 75mm Blue Wheels http://www.robochallenge.co.uk/Event...echanical.html

Wires: 12 AWG red and black http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/12-AWG-Bla...item257c0a19b1

    Connectors and removeable link: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Deans-Conn...item5642d43b4b

And apart from the chassis, that should get you a moving robot. This isn't necessarily the only or best components, but it's a set that I use that work satisfactorily.

Good luck and feel free to ask any more questions
