Pneumatic crushers. I think only the heavyweight Mitril comes close to being a real one. That uses a monster of a ram on full pressure. (140mm bore, 140mm stroke, 8.5 tons of force)
TAN has damaged other machines, but that was more a stroke of bad luck.
But in feathers, pneumatic crushers? I can't recall any succesfull one.
Hmm, a 100mm bore, 50mm stroke single acting ram... a tad heavy, but with 4 tons of force you could do some damage. No buffertank needed, speed will be fast enough to grab and splat.
Use a big servo to open and close the bottle as main valve, and another big servo to open a poppet valve to dump.
I don't think it's going to get any cheaper than that.
On hydraulics. You'll need big pockets for that.
The smallest, affordable gearpump I found was £85, that needs at least a Speed 900 or geared Astroflight to operate.
Maybe that a DeWalt can do the job -team Storm started on such a setup ages ago-
