A fairly crude way to know if you're running the motors at 100% would be to put a battery onto them directly, listen to the tone, then do what should be full throttle on the tx and see if there is a marked difference in the sound.

Tried that and it's very difficult to tell the difference. I also tried putting a multimeter on the motor terminals to compare the voltages being sent to the motors but at the higher end of the throws, it goes crazy and can't seem to measure it. What Tx and Rx set up do you use on Tormenta 2?
If you can't tell the difference in tone between the battery directly onto the motor terminals and going full throttle at the transmitter then chances are you are getting 100%.
We use a Planet 5 transmitter and receiver kit, a v-tail mixer, and the Botbitz. Very simple, only complaint with the tz85s I suppose is that when you put the stick fully into a corner of its travel, it doesn't move. I assume this is some sort of mixer+tz85 combined issue as it didn't happen when we used to run electronize. It's not a problem in the arena, really, as you rarely want to do donuts anyway. :P
We use DX6i's and Botbitz on both our machines. As I said before, the only issue we have is that it goes faster one way than the other.
The mixing is set to Elevon. We have one channel reversed as I prefer to wire up my motors so that I have the positives on the same edges as the motors so It makes it easier to see the flow of power through the machine.
The Big Nipper guys messed with my TX at GSL to sort the speed issue with Conker but that was it, Speed only.
Try rebinding the RX with everything reset to defaults then edit from there. If you edited before had then it could have given the RX and ESC's false centre points or something... no idea really, just a thought.
Using purely elevon on a dx6i limits top speed in forwards and backwards directions to 50%, and will only reach 100% if spinning on the spot which on a rambot isn't what you'd want. It might be that I may have to upgrade my Tx to a more adjustable unit.
you could just get a v tail mixer there not expensive, i use the cheap ones and havent had any problems but i dont use the tz85 esc
You can't directly measure the voltage out of an ESC as they don't vary the speed of the motors with voltage they vary it with switching. So they pulse the motor with full voltage at different frequencies to achieve the equivalent power input. So no matter what speed the motor is doing the voltmeter is reading full battery voltage being switched between 0 and full constantly.
I have one of the older DX6i's but I've not seen this problem before always getting 100% output in turning or forwards/backwards!
Been doing some research into all this. The only way to get proper mixing like you'd want on a bot would be to use a Spektrum DX8. The Hobbyking set is a bit better in terms of the mixing.
I'd love to use a v-tail mixer but dont people have issues with them at the higher ends of their throws like Ellis said?
Yes and no. In our particular setup, with a Planet T5 tx and rx set on one side of the mixer and the tz85s on the other, it so happens that it's not perfect. But it isn't what I'd consider an issue, at all. I have never noticed the oddity in the arena across the 30 odd battles Tormenta 2 has done.
We didn't get it from this seller, but this is the model we have: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/GWS-V-TAIL...item20c29a50cf
In Tormenta 1 we ran an identical setup to the one we have now, but with Electronize instead of the Botbitz, and the oddity wasn't there, so chances are it's something that can be fixed anyway.
For at most 10 quid, it's worth a shot?
Edit: as for "don't people have issues..." I can't speak for others, but I don't think this is a common problem with mixers.![]()
i haven't had any noticeable issues yet with the v tail but again i don't use the tz85
this is the 1 i use (might be worth testing before you spend a load of money on a new transmitter)

but some people prefer GWS v-tail mixers
