    Your beetle weight would have to be traveling at 80 miles per hour and stop completely on impact to give 1kj of energy!
    Kinetic Energy= 0.5*mass*(velocity)^2
    So velocity = Sqrt(KE*2/mass )
    = Sqrt(1000*2/1.5)
    = 36.5 m/s
    = 80 mph

    That would give 2.5mph, bit slow but sounds about right for a beetleweight

    The forces they have to cope with are the same yes, obviously the opposing robot is being hit with something so will take more superficial damage. The first version of Lynx basically destroyed itself at half speed because it couldn't handle the forces it took during an impact, however it also had enough energy at half speed to get through g5 Ti.
