Your beetle weight would have to be traveling at 80 miles per hour and stop completely on impact to give 1kj of energy!
Kinetic Energy= 0.5*mass*(velocity)^2
So velocity = Sqrt(KE*2/mass )
= Sqrt(1000*2/1.5)
= 36.5 m/s
= 80 mph

I saw suvv write 1jk of energy and read it as 1kj. I think he meant 1 joule abbreviated to 1jl but instead typed 1jk. 1 joule is 1 newton acting to move something a meter so that would make more sense lol. It's me that's written 1kj sorry

That would give 2.5mph, bit slow but sounds about right for a beetleweight

lol don't worry I have a "dave second law of beetle spinner impacts" in that I don't think the energy transferred is actually that bad. I mean this in that although the mechanical calculations show a daft amount of energy upon contact with a disk or drum, the robot being hit isn't a fixed target. I mean this in that if you screwed 5mm plated steel to a wall and drove 720 into it it would put a nice big gouge in it. But then if you mount the same plate on another robot, a lot of the energy goes into throwing away the other robot. When you watch the beetle spinner fights there is clearly so much energy there, but upon contact with 1kg not being that planted the result ends up in glancing blows. The second law of beetle spinner impacts makes me feel a lot better about my ally angle When I bring my robot home in a binbag on the 1st March I will no doubt change my tune

and also isnt the rule with spinners that they do as much damage to themselfs as to the target

im preparing for my first bot to explode on impact with any of the spinners

The forces they have to cope with are the same yes, obviously the opposing robot is being hit with something so will take more superficial damage. The first version of Lynx basically destroyed itself at half speed because it couldn't handle the forces it took during an impact, however it also had enough energy at half speed to get through g5 Ti.
