    Hijack...

    Would swapping Annealed 2mm Grade 2 Titanium for 1.2mm TA10/Ti64 work as top armour? It apparently has poor shear strength and surface wear properties but has higher Ultimate/Yield tensile strength by about 250%.

    I'd go with the 1.2mm grade5 Ti
    Grade2 is just pure Ti, with similar tensile strength to mild steel, where as grade5 Ti is nearer to hardox or similar steel.
    I got 1.2mm gr5 Ti on mine, for normal combat its more than enough, but it also depends on the angle you place your armour at

    I will go with the Grade 5 then. Unfortunately its flat on the top of the machine. I am trying to keep the same style as in Conkers 1 & 2 with the flat edges and sloped core section. The sides are 10mm 7075 and 2mm Ti 2 so no probs there, its just the top I worry about with the new axes coming in. Could also do with a 2mm Grade 6 plate for the base as atm it 2mm grade 2 but thats for later.

    Well you could always check on that seller, she had more sheets in various thickness, sizes and grades. Try to keep the weight below 2 kg as otherwise the shipping will more than double!

    One thing I get curious about is how you guys use hardox on featherweights and manage to stay within the weight limit...I'm finding it really hard to do so!!

    Grade 1 is pure Titanium, Grade 5 is an alloy and includes Aluminum and Vanadium I believe.
    For armour people tend towards Gr5 since it has the highest elasticity value.

    With a proper bending machine, you'll be able to bend Gr5 Ti, but you'll have to bend a bit further as it will spring back, also tight angles are difficult to produce as it will most probably snap at sheet thickness above 2mm.
    Anything below Gr5 Ti is pure titanium - and in my opinion not good for armour - the only advantage I can think of being its lighter weight and hardness. Compared to steel or aluminium, strength wise its similar to mild steel or aluminium 2024T3. Aluminium 7075T6 is even stronger.

    Grade 5 will often just snap when bent if not heated as Trev said.
