Thread: Titanium

  1. #1
I'm trying to source some armour material for the re-design of my flipper arm from the current 1mm thick Gr5 titanium plate to something thicker.
I've found a piece of Gr5 Ti 400mm by 300mm by 3.5mm thick for £50, does any one know if this is a fair pricel? Have to consider also shipping costs, which I'd estimate around another £20.

Don't know what else I could use - hardox seems impossible to find in small quantities and its quite heavy, other options I was looking at is ground flat stock but its similar in weight to hardox.

£50 is a reasonable price for that piece.

Have a look here. Don't faint please

Lol no surprises there. Ebay is the standard place to go for cheap titanium. How much was shipping?

£13 shipping, Have yet to find a piece of grade 5 titanium of significant thickness and size at a reasonable price off e-bay!

You just did. Titanium ain't cheap. Look into how it's manufactured and you'll understand why. Same with alluminium compared to steel.

Yes you're right, I sure did! The thing I don't get abut Ti is its scrap value - on the island you'd get nothing for it, unlike steel, aluminium, brass or copper. Is it the same over there?

    Same over here.
But that's more because titanium scrap/swarf is so rare, there ain't a reasonable recycling circuit for it.
