I really wish I could say there were. There's one of the few Canadian robot combat clubs in Toronto, which is good news (it's only about 2.5-3 hours away by car), but their website really doesn't give a sense that they're still running events...or have done so in a long time. So, it doesn't look like there's a whole lot near me that wouldn't require air fare.
(And, for those in the UK not familiar with Ontario or Canada, 2.5-3 hours is a relatively short distance between cities over here. Ontario is big...REALLY big. You could probably fit the UK into Ontario alone at least a couple of times over.)
There were a couple of Ontario general events, but they have gotten fewer and farther between. The Ontario Science Centre had a robotics event, but it cancelled it a couple of years back due to lack of attendance.
(Okay, it is just me, or does it really feel like back when Robot Wars and Battlebots were on television, the robot combat primed the entire field to take off, and then the rest of the field went and dropped the ball? I mean, was it a case where instead of combat robots - which are exciting and fun - being treated as the main event as people tried to get into robotics and take part, they were treated as the sideshow instead? That would cause people to lose interest. Seriously, what would you rather see - Razer vs. Hypno-Disc, or a robot following a line around?)
Best regards to all,
Robert Marks
