battery charging

can someone help me please, here i have 3 7.2volt batterys wired up to give me 21.6 volt output, wired i think in series, can i charge them joined together or do i have to seperate them and charge individualy, thank you

What type of batteries are they?

7.2v nicd or nimh can be wired and charged in series.
