A question for the rules experts... is it allowable to use this type of safety valve also as a dump valve? It's got a manual function to bleed air off the system by pulling the ring - so if I added a toggle to the safety valve I could use it for both dump and pressure relief functions...

There is no reason why the reliefvalve can't be the dump valve. As long the complete system is rendered pressureless.

bought most of the pneumatic parts off that guy - he's nice and helpful. That valve should be fine - it worked for me, got it in action a couple of times when I had the regulator fully open!

Thanks Mario, you confirmed my reasoning...

Just a note, the valve needs to be left open when not in the arena. Most of the relief valves that can be manually operated have a self closing mechanism.

As Kane remarks, just make sure you can keep the dump open when in the pits.

Yes of course - It must remain open otherwise is useless. True most relief/safety valves have a normally closed manual override function, but its easy to adapt them to stay open without modifying the valve itself.
