Motor Mounts?

Hi all, very much a noob when it comes to robotics. I am in mid build of my first fw robot, going for the cheap start option being Argos 12v drill motors 2no which i already have, i am currently making a rambot, as feel this would be a good start. Im now at the stage of mounting the motors into my chassis. Could someone please advice what is the best way of constructing the motor mounts aka what materials best, positions of mounts(on the motor) . Basic drawing?

Second question. What batteries to run? baring in mind budget again is small i'm avoiding lipo's.

HDPE is the easiest way to make the motor mounts.You can cut to size with standard wood working tools and use a holesaw to cut to size
Have a surf throught the forum there are lots of pictures of drill mounting

thanks very much for your reply i have been searching hi and low over the forum for weeks now and have yet to find motor mounts. Obviously have been looking in the wrong places. Will soon be putting up a build diary mainly based at very inexperienced people like myself to show what you can build on a budget.

Not many do them like that, but so far our experience has been that the result is flexible (a good thing with these weak plastic gearbox casings), light, strong, and importantly easy to dismantle. If you haven't already got it in mind, build the robot with taking it apart in a rush in mind, as chances are you'll have to do just that more than once!

Just looked through your pics what a clever idea hadn't thought of using that method, currently ive been collecting all the gear together at the moment, Had lots of little bits from when i raced rc cars so, that was nice, have updated transmitter now to a spektrum dx6i. Now all i have left to order is some HDPE, as it stands my bot is currently in the cardboard stage, as have used it to make templates for my cutouts.

The one thing I did find is that when I first made the mounts I had it so the motor shaft went through the side of the bot and the wheel screwed on. This is fine until you need the wheel to come off and find you cant hold the shaft.
The moral of the story is think maintenance. Things break - you need to replace components without pulling the hole thing apart

my wheels are internal you see, bot will run both ways up, i have allowed room in my build for a linear actuator but with finances at the moment it will start off as a ram bot until i gain more experience and money. A video for constructing motor mounts would be useful but with a little time and patients im sure ill over come this. Im thinking of going for a mount design like Ellis as my wheels are internally located they seem useful for dismantling when repairing.
