Bigger wheels for Gabriel because 800mm just isn't big enough!

Some pictures of the work so far on the new E-Knock robot, the wheels are home made and I have no idea how they are going to workout. It is a bit un nerving to be able to see straight through! Made of 10mm Polycarbonate they should be OK the Gimson drive motors are fitted with 18v motors and will be driven by a pair of 6s LiPo batteries wired in Parallel giving a pack size of 4400mAh, with the standard Botzbits 85A speed controllers and that is about it.
    More to follow.

The polycarb hubs could work well. I have been using polycarbonate hubs in Colson wheels for years and they have survived direct spinner hits and have never broken. It really depends on how thick your hubs are.

    Hi Dave.
    This picture may help,
    IMG_1536.jpg

    The procedures as follows:-
1/ cut disc with 3" cutter.
2/ drill out to 8mm, then tap 3/8" unf
3/ cut bike tyre long enough to go round disc, then cut down the middle.
(the tyre in the picture will do 2 discs)
4/Cut a buttress profile along one edge, (I used the side that was closest to the rim)
5/With 3.5mm*15mm wood screws fix on the tyre, I used a 2mm pilot drill for this bit.

Hope this helps, but I don't know if the wheels will work yet!

I realised I hadn't said anything about the new E-Knock and how it worked out in the arena on it's first event.
Basically it worked perfectly, the new wheel design gave no problems at all in fact I was stood on the robot and very carefully drove it around the arena, this was between shows.
the blade on the front was fine and the motors with the new speed controllers worked with out fault.
the only thing I need to do is increase the voltage on the motors or change them for some 12v ones as it was too slow in the fights, this made it a bit boring to drive
the picture is to show the old E-Knock for scale.
BTW i may be selling the old one in the near future.

It's been forever since I've put anything up here so some pics of the refurbished Saint to start with and other things to come.

The big thing on this picture apart from all the paint is the long nuts welded on either side of the body end plate. I have found over the years the body got squashed mainly by THOR these are going to have jacking bolts to try to stop this happening any more.
    IMG_1679.jpg
The body had some welds re-done then just some paint.
    IMG_1680.jpg
New rubber for the body drum.
    IMG_1682.jpg
The drive sub assemblies are reassembled and new type chain tensioners fitted.
    IMG_1685.jpg
    IMG_1691.jpg
Bits put together you can see how the jacking bolts work in this one.
    IMG_1692.jpg
New battery straps fitted as we wore the old ones out!
    IMG_1694.jpg

information on the new wheels and top armour to come.
