The problem with mods in any software is that when an upgrade is needed (and with forum software to keep your forum safe you need to do that regularly) mods do not always work well with the newer version of the forum software. This can again cause serious delays or in some cases even broken forums after upgrades. Therefore I always try to keep forums as vanilla as possible.
