Thread: I want to make a weapon with brushless motor

What are the exact motor details? Do you have a link to say the data sheet, that will help in deciding on some key factors.

What kind of spinner do you want? They each have their own pros and cons so I would look at those first and see what you can do with your budget and skills.

The main point is that you will have to gear down the motor to some degree. For drum spinners it can be as little as a 2:1 ratio. My machine Conker runs a 3.33:1 ratio, others run more. Inertial XL Runs a 4:1 ratio but the disc is 300mm dia where as Conker's is only 200mm.

It's a bit of an ethical or moral dilemma in giving this advice to people entering competitions we know little about.

We'd love to tell everybody everything but, without knowing what safety precautions are in place, we can't recommend what is safe or harmless to other people.

Particularly, a brushless spinner. Those things are lethal!

where is the machine going to be run? There isn't much you can do with a brushless beyond a spinner and even then not all brushless are suited for the job.

For a first machine, stick to a rammer. You will struggle enough to get that running let alone with a weapon system in the mix as well.

Where will the robot be run?

I think Gary is asking because it is likely that the arena you will be fighting in won't be safe for a spinner. To give you an idea, the RoboChallenge arena is a completely sealed bullet proof box, with 10mm thick polycarbonate walls.

It wouldn't be right to advise you on how to build a weapon with the potential to harm (severely) you or anyone around your robot.

Precisely. I don't think you will find much use for the brushless motor as they are pretty much only useful for building spinning disc weapons. Basically machines too dangerous for a small scale competition without a proper arena.
