Thread: What's this called?

  1. #1
I know what I need to do the job, just don't know what it's called so I can't find them.

I need to have some way of attaching Saw blades to a shaft in my wooden robot, and since they have often have a 20mm internal hole I was stuck for ideas.
I think I can do with with some sort of hub that sits in the 20mm hole and has a wider flange that can attach to the blade.

Something like this if you looked at it from the side:

http://mobile.robotmarketplace.com/VDD-HUB20.html would this do? But I have just noticed there discontinued, what about a modifided angle grinder? That has the right hub, and you can get cordless ones?

What's the issue with going for an angle grinder gearbox?

I don't see any issue except the low gearratio. Last time I messured it was 2.5-1 , perfectly capable to take 850W.

Good find Alex! That's exactly what I need.

My plan was originally to use an Angle Grinder gearbox but I feared I'd run into complications changing the motor for a DC one.
Plus my plan is too run three blade simultaneously, so I don't want three gearboxes, I'd rather mount three blades to one shaft and then spin that.

Maybe I could nick the hubs off of Angle Grinders, been a while since I looked at one.

Thanks for the input so far everyone.
